NEW SUPER SHRIKE II VIDEO
Ok Shrike Fans, just like before, click on the link with your right mouse button and Save Target As. If you have the bandwith, download the second one listed. 133mb. The quality is great.
I hope you Shrike Guys like this one.
Enjoy,
Charlie

Hi Charlie,
I've downloaded the first one... Is the second the same in better quality ?
Good vid, you never seem to throttle back !!!
Do u hand launch it or do you have a helper for take-off ?
How heavy did u end up with your Norvel ?

Strykaas, yes, the second one is the same video, just better quality. I normally launch myself, but since this was the first flight for this plane, my buddy launched it. I'm not sure of the weight.
Thanks for your comments,
Charlie

Thanks Boom3,
The compression really hurts the quality. I wish everyone could see the DVD version.

Strykaas, yes, place the lead on the former under the hatch screw. The battery goes there also. If you get it right, she will glide just fine. You shouldn't have to use full up elevator to keep the nose out of the dirt. I will add a little weight any day to get one to land correctly.

RE: NEW SUPER SHRIKE II VIDEO
Hey Rudeboy,
The prop is either a 8x7 or 8x8 APC. I can't remember what I settled with, I tested several props on the Norvel and the one that's on it now is the best for that engine, pipe and fuel combo. I do know it's turning 19,500 rpm on the ground. The next video we plan to do some speed runs.
Later,
Charlie

RE: NEW SUPER SHRIKE II VIDEO
Man u guys are giving me the bug bad! I have my Shrike on table still building it. After seeing those videos I realized I need to hurry up and get done! That thing looks like lots of fun.
I am gonna go with the smaller engine route and see how it goes. I have a high revving .15 and going to try to make it work out. I want to use the .15 cause it is pretty light weight. and its real a good engine on pipe. We will see how it goes when I get done. If not I will stick a bigger engine in it.

RE: NEW SUPER SHRIKE II VIDEO
Thanks for the compliments on the vid, guys.
Jester125 - I used Vegas 4.0 to edit the video. Great program -- I would recommend it to anyone.
Brian
PS - As for the speed, we don't have a good doppler run recorded yet. But let me tell you it was MUCH harder to follow with the camera than the Shrike I. She was moving!!!

RE: NEW SUPER SHRIKE II VIDEO
Strykaas, listed below are the mods on the Shrike II.
SHRIKE .10 UPGRADES
1.Move firewall back ¼ inch.
2.Replace all balsa spars with hardwood. (not the trailing edge)
3.Sheet wing top and bottom from root rib R1 to R2.
4.Sheet top and bottom horizontal stabilizer. (add a cross brace in the center before sheeting)
5.Sheet vertical stabilizers outside only.
6.Add tri-stock top and bottom of vertical stabilizers.
7.Locate rx battery far back as possible.
8.Place balancing weight on the former next to hatch screw.
9.Add an extra hinge at the center of the elevator.
10. Extend the leading edge ¼ x ¼ spar into the fuselage.
11.Use the CG from the plans. (Balance the plane level, NOT nose heavy)
12.Cover the vertical Stabilizers and tri-stock before gluing to the plane.
13. Optional: modify the wing tip. (see video)

RE: NEW SUPER SHRIKE II VIDEO
Thanks Charlie for this useful information.
Have you experienced any problem with another over-powered Shrike (folding wings [X(] ? ), or is this pro-active reinforcement to avoid any surprise ?

RE: NEW SUPER SHRIKE II VIDEO
Strykaas, no I haven't lost a wing yet due to speed. I guess more preventive you could say. Researching the forum, a few people have lost wings at high speeds. Sheeting the bottom wing between R1 and R2 is most important. If this area is not sheeted, over time, during the launch your finger tips pressing on the wing will cause the covering to pull away from the cap strips. Sheeting this area fixes that problem. Several of the other mods makes the plane stronger in different areas. I'm not saying all of these mods have to be done. I have more confidence in the plane when I do them.

RE: NEW SUPER SHRIKE II VIDEO
512: Vegas is a great program once you get going with it. Adobe Premeire is another good one you may want to check out. I also use Avid Xpress DV occasionally as well. I misposted my cam info in the other post. The camera I have is the Panasonic PV-DV953. The $1500 price you found is about right for this camera. It is pricey, but for top notch quality you can't beat it. The Canon GL2 is on my wishlist, though.
For those having problems downloading the video, did you right click the link and "Save Target As"? I just downloaded it again from both work and home and it worked properly both times. Not sure why it would be cutting off for some of you. Any info you could provide would help me solve the mystery.
