Formula Something - Old Pylon from a few years back
A long time ago (even before there was RC Universe, was still RCO at the time) I bought a pylon plane from a guy who raced it at some nationals competition. It was in a few publications and what not. I haven't seen any planes like it here on the forums or for sale and I'm wondering why.
The plane Im looking for had a similiar look and size to the Wildhare LR-1. It was all carbon fiber/composite material, custom painted etc. Very slick and incredible. I haven't seen any other planes like this. I bought an LR-1 to keep me busy for the time being but Im still searching for one of those high end Pylon kits.
Anyone know what I speak of? Are these kits no longer around?

I believe your remmber Quarter Midget 15, which ran on strong .15 sized motors.
They pop up ocassionally, but not too much anymore. I picked up an Gager Estralita kit a couple years ago, and I'm still deciding what to do with it. Once the class was replaced by the bigger Q40's, there really was no need to continue manufacturing the smaller QM 15 kits.

If its bigger, like 40 sized, your most likely talking about a formula 1 plane. Once again, same deal, as soon as the class was replaced, the manufacturers had little market left to sell the kits and stopped making them.

Yes I believe it was one of those formula 1 kits and about .40 size. They were nice. Going to miss them.
So whats the big pylon to "have"in the .40 size these days? Something of similiar build and quaility (carbon/fiberglass etc).

Formula One was a difficult elite event. It was replaced by a simplfied event in an attempt to broaden the appeal. Where a F1 design had the engine completely cowled, a full cockpit with pilot, and wheel pants, Q40 has none allowed or required. The F1 engine running on 65% nitro was fairly difficult to operate, and carving props was an art. Q40 uses a easy to tune engine on 15% fuel and now plastic props.

Look at the QM 40 plane now available. While not exactly F1 they are very similar.

Has some of the old QM15 aircraft (good ones too) and also offers glass/foam QM40 Napier and AJ-2 kits.
Those QM40 designs are a bit dated (although he has updated versions coming out soon) but for sport-speed flying......either would be sensation with a solid sport engine in the nose, and they are a bit more economical (depending on how you value things)
