Default JULY14TH - GO FAST AT THE MADERA WARBIRD RACES IN CALIFORNIA

Thought I would put this in the "Speed" forum as many of you may or may not visit the pylon forums. If you want to go have some fun with your fast warbirds...these are the races for you.

California Sport Warbird Series

July 14th, 2007 will be one of the fastest races yet to run in the Central Valley. The MARCS club of Madera, California will be hosting the 2nd of 4 races in the California Sport Warbird Series. The Series consist of three classes. For information about each classes, email Kevin Norred @ [email protected].

A brief description of each class is as follows:

.46 Modified Warbird
This class caters to the smaller Warbirds allowing individuals to run engines no larger than a .46 cu.in engine. Engines have to be front intake /side exhaust. No Nelsons, Jetts, or Fora engines. You may use Nelson or Jett pipes, but not the engines. Tuned Pipes are allowed also. Aircraft must follow the rules, but the size of the aircraft must be 475 sq in with a 10% airfoil. Speeds of these planes have been averaging about 120-140mph.

Stock World Models Warbirds
This class is for all pilots who want to have a fair chance of winning. The aircraft have to be one of the World Models Warbirds listed on the rules with a stock O.S. 61 FX engine. The aircraft of choice due to its size and weight is the P-51 Mustang and the Dago Red. The other aircraft such as the Zero, Spitfire, P-40 and P-39 tend to be a little larger and heavier so may be at a disadvantage. The average speed for this class is about 110-130mph.

The Unlimited Warbird Class
The fastest and most exciting class of all Warbird Racing. The Unlimited Warbird Class is for the “Big Dogs” who love to go fast. The class has some rules and limitations for safety. The just of the class is the aircraft has to have a minimum of 520 sq in with a max engine size of 1.6. Pretty much anything goes as long as it meets the safety requirements in the rules. Samples of Aircraft being used in this class have been Dymond Bearcats, World Models Mustangs, Scatch Built kits, Great Planes Corsairs, Phoenix Stregas and the list continues to grow. Engines being used are Y.S. engines, O.S. engines, Jett Engines, BVM engines, GWS engines and so on. The average speed for this class is about 140mph to 180mph.

The way the races work out is that we run 4 rounds of heat racing. Within these 4 heats of racing, we take the top 5 pilots in each class and put them into a trophy race to duke it out for the top honors.

The course is pretty simple. We have 2 pylons 650 feet apart and 8 laps must be completed. We don’t have the help or the equipment to run timers so AMA has waivered us to run what you brung as long as it meets the rules that have been approved for us. The first to cross the line wins. No sandbaggers, no wide turns, no long laps. Each pilot must push his plane as fast as possible and as hard as possible without cutting or getting passed.

Do you think you have what it takes to win? Let’s see.

If interested, please contact Kevin Norred @ [email protected] or call (408) 482-5437. Pre registration of frequencies is required. A one time cost of $10 annually is required to lock in your channel. If you are using 2.4, you still must register a channel/race number. Race numbers are required and also can be registered at the same time as frequencies. Cost is included in the one time fee. Race Entry fees for all races are $25.00ea.

Spread the word.

For the Madera Race, we will have food and Beverage available. Hotels are less than one mile from the club. The runway is a full-size runway used by Crop Dusters periodically. It is 150 feet wide and 5000+ feet long. If enough participation, Public raffle with some nice stuff will be offered.

Trophies will be handed out in all three classes 1st – 3rd.

Best of all …NO POLITICS ALLOWED!!!!! It is all about having fun, yet winning!!!!

Also, Norred Aero Products will be on hand with World Models kits, APC Props, Bolly Props , BSI glue . If you need anything special drop an email to [email protected]
