w/servos O.S. 91 FX about a gallon, No receiver or battery.
small cracks on belly off of the landing gear holes about 1 inch each, crack in top spine and needs new front retract. Not from a crash or anything just bad landing. All glassing is really easy fix, just have no time to do it.

Has anyone tried a OS 55AX with a Jett muffler? I have one in a AKM F-16 weight at 7.8 pounds and it gets up and goes ...it sure would be a lot lighter and a lot less cost.

mmmmmmm.........
the Hornet is a bit big and heavy. And no way to get it much lighter.
Flys great, good wing loading..... but it needs to HP up front.

That 55 approach on the Juno F-18 might be worth an experiment though....

Has anyone tried to make their jet electric yet? If I can't sell mine I need to know how to get an inrunner or outrunner in the nose and at what KV?

Alex, member of Cermark, had flown with Power 60 with 10s battery (around +6000mah and 3800mah). Power plant is okay with either NEO-60 or Power 60. However the battery kills. At 10s, it is a pretty expensive pack. The 7000-7600mah is a bit heavy for the airplane - increase wingload. The 3800 and 4000 is much better for wingload, but short flying time (3+ to 4.3 min). We flew with the same glow setup (no weight reduction) and without spinner.

Battery is not a problem I'm going A123 anyway. I just need to see how he mounted the motor, wing loading I can deal with.

Hey guys,

Been gone a while since I started the thread... I always seem to finish these planes a year or so after I plan to. Anyway, thanks to "XPHSTOS" and the truly graphic "in-flight breakup" pics he provided. This plane does seem to have a structural flaw in the underside due to the holes that are cut in the underside for the main gear. The pics show where the underside skin buckled and caused the whole fuselage to bend and ultimately fail. I slightly Tested/flexed my fuselage during the assembly process to see what would happen..... and the skin did begin to buckle right between the main wheel well holes.

This weak area between the main wheel wells does seem to be a major flaw and probably should be corrected at the manufacturer with something to make the bottom of the plane more rigid!

Here is the fix I used to hopefully prevent such a failure....

I added 2 carbon fiber rods (to keep it light) between the forward main gear bulkhead and the aft nosegear bulkhead. They are braced in tightly and glued down with a mixture of epoxy and millfiber. I used some small strips of balsa to act as a dam to create a triangular "tub" to fill with epoxy and secure the Rods to both the bulkheads and floor of the plane at the same time. I ran the epoxy the full length of the rods and secured them to the inside/bottom of the fuselage. The lower skin of the fuselage is super rigid now!

The rods are intentionally A-symetrical to allow for the offset nose wheel well.

Here are a few pics of the fix!

Also, I added some pics of the servo arrangement thus far and the retract table I made to cut down on weight and improve the planes balance! As usual, all servos are in the tail except for the Aileron servos.... this should allow for a not so massive battery and lighter weight!

Note the hardwood doubler for the nosegear blocks and the throttle/NWS (NOSE WHEEL STEERING) tubes.

Anyway... plan to finish and fly the plane in a few weeks.... more pics of improvements to come!

Here are pics of the weak area from the outside. The underside of the plane between the main wheel wells is thin and weak! It needs to be stiffened up! I should have taken the pics before I added the carbon rods .... it was pretty thin!

Hehe yes just a pieces of plastic ..... you know to reduce some drag , once in the air they're invisibles and the difference between with and without is very notable = more speed .

I know its a bit off topic, but can anyone out there recommend a good F4 Phantom prop ARF? Pickings are slim as far as I can tell. I figured this is the crowd to ask. I cant find the Cermark F/A 18 in stock ANYWHERE.

Cermark should have planes in stock again shortly. And with any luck their F-15 will show up this winter too.


Vmar (richmond) and NitroPlanes both have an F-4 Phantom available as an ARF....

But based on feedback, Id be hard pressed to really recommend either as a "good phantom prop arf".

The Royal F-4E and the GP F-4 both fly very well. Often enough kits for both show up for sale now and then.

There was an excellent Phantom build thread about a year ago (scratch) ... MustangFever ? Cant seem to find the thread...

Inquired with the sales rep at Cermark about Hornet availability...the response..."Its going to be about 3-6 months before we get them back in stock.." Its a sad day for me. Guess I will just outfit my Sundowner 50 with a Jett 60 to get my speed fix until then. Hmm...wonder if a Jett 90LX would fit in my sundowner....

I do not recommend the 90LX in the sundowner. Just not a very clean installation when you are done, and its heavy. And from reports of a couple of people who have tried it.... Dub's 60LX powered sundowner is still faster.
