RE: go fast engine for a 1.40 size airframe?
Don't know the airframe yet (an that will change a lot)
But a ball park engine could be a moki 180, based on the 150 moki it'll pack a punch for it's size, it ain't high revvving, but there isn't much going of that size that is, i'd say a tuned pipe and coarse props would give you plenty of punch... supertiger make some big cheap two strokers too ... think theyre on the heavy side but run reall good! at the top end there is the OS160fx which is an expensive motor but would rev well for it's size on a good pipe too!
just some suggestions .. knowing the airframe would be good tho .....
just my chip

Wow this totally depends on the airframe but generally:
OS-140RX/ Pipe
Moki-1.8 or 2.1
YS-140FZ/Sport/L
YS-160 or 170
OS-160FX/ Pipe
OS-140RX/ Pipe
Moki-1.8 or 2.1
YS-140FZ/Sport/L
YS-160 or 170

The Moki or Mark 210 is 1 oz. lighter than the 180 ! The Mark 210 want's FAI fuel, no nitro, cheaper! The hight of the 210 is 4 5/8" from the bottom of the engine's mounting rails to the top of the engine, I think the 180 is 5/32" shorter. These are great engines, just use the large fuel line, stopper pass through tube and clunk or it will go lean or quit.

I wouldn't really look to hard at the OS 1.60 FX for speed. I owned two of them and although they are pretty strong, they weren't too happy turning over 10K, and really are better suited for swinging larger props. Very much a torquer, They seem happiest around 8,500-9,000 and mine liked the 18x6 MAS on the stock muffler. Bob has run the 1.60 a bit and might be able to shed some light on it's qualities. I don't know if he's ever put it on a tuned pipe for speed or not, but I've read several of his posts talking about low nitro, low RPM testing with the Jett muffler.

It's going to be a sleek, old style pattern plane. I plan on clipping the wings and putting retracts in it. Maybe change the airfoils also, not sure yet.

It's a plane a friend of mine designed and made molds for to fly pattern, he shaped the fuse after some racer. I'm going to lay up another one and built it for the sole purpose of going fast. Any other modifications you guys would suggest besides motor choice would be welcome as well! =)
