Help with Novarossi-50 Header
Good morning!
I finally got ahold of a Novarossi-50 with header and pipe, but when I attach the header to the engine it is not even snug. It is like the Rossi deal where it mates and you might put a spring around the engine head or what-not but this header is noticeably larger than the male on the engine... The header has 2 alan-head screws that I am not sure of their function.
Anybody?

I don't have one. But kinda looks to me like the header slides over the male end on the engine and you tighten the screws to pinch? Just a guess...

RE: Help with Novarossi-50 Header
Thanks Destiny, I should have mentioned that I tried that but the screws nearly bottom-out before they hit the male portion of the engine. The diameter is just way off, I feel like I should get a BIG O-ring for the male end that might snug it up but still....Puzzles me-
I ran it anyway for kicks...Freaking rubber banded on there-

Hi Dave- Nope no spring marks... I thought of that but even then, they do not fit anywhere close to "snug" like the Rossi's do.

Razor,
What exactly do you need?[sm=idea.gif]
I have boxes of new Rossi parts maybe I could dig you up what you need.
It will cost you big time!

RE: Help with Novarossi-50 Header
I'm sure you are aware of this, but just in case......
Planet Hobby www.planethobby.com has a lot of Novarossi engines and parts. You might be able to compare the header they have for the 50 with yours to make sure it is the right one. I once ordered the 09.20C from them and the header had a nylon insert that mated between the header and the round portion on the head (not sure what you call it, exhaust manifold?). Without this insert you would have the problems you mention although I do not know if the 50 has this insert. On the 20 the header was held on by a spring but I cant remember how it attached. I think it was through two small holes in the header that the spring hooked through. I do remember it was kind of a flimsy attachment. The 20 was a fine and very strong running engine but it was a boat anchor. I have seen a few Novarossi 50's and 60's for sale here and elsewhere and I am tempted to pick one up. However I have a Webra 50 that is running just fine and I cant justify the money for a Novarossi. I am surprised that they are not more popular however. I would be interested to know how yours performs. I have dealt with Planethobby several times and I have been impressed with their service. Their glow plugs are a real bargain in my opinion.
hope this helps,
Rob

Looks like you need one of those silicone Top Hat looking thingies that slips over the engines exh. and seals the gap?
R/C cars use 'em on most of their pipes.
Edit: Something like the blue gasket in this pic maybe? (coupler? whatever ya wanna call it)

RE: Help with Novarossi-50 Header
Yeah...all ya gotta do is find one that's the right size
The ones for "big block" r/c cars are only .21 to .30 size, but there is a .46 monster truck engine (Hot Bodies is the company name...maybe they'd have one that's big enough?)
Another thing I just remembered is that some of the DF rear exh. engines use 2 thick O-rings so maybe 2 or even 3 of them to take up the space all along the length of the E. stack?
Those screws look like posts to hook the spring around..but they are 90 degrees to where they should be, aye!?

The header that is shown on Planet Hobbies website does not seem to be the same as the one Razor has, I am wondering if that header is the correct one?

I am guessing that might be a header for the helicopter version of the motor (crankshaft pointing straight up mounted in a heli), that might explain the location of the screws for the securing spring.

I was just thinking the same thing...Heli version...but you could drill and tap new holes for those spring posts.
If you still wanna use it, how about taking a slice off that silicone pipe coupler you've got on the other end of the pipe? Say about 1/4" thick?

RE: Help with Novarossi-50 Header
Wow, great suggestions folks! I agree the alan-head screws are 90 from where they "should be and I was just (2 minutes ago) thinking about splicing some silicone and using that....I also looked at the gaskets Proptop mentioned from Tower. They seem like they would be small though----
I am just going to get a UT muffler for it and call it good. Another $65- Planet hobbies actually sells the engine with the UT- The Nova pipe is HEAVY
Funny because the Novarossi pipe is like $80 bucks but who is going to buy that? Hardly anyone even HAS the Novarossi-50 (Airplane version) let alone someone needing the pipe only-
Thanks all!

RE: Help with Novarossi-50 Header
Well I broke down and purchased the header for the Nova- I am dying to compare it to the rest of my engines on my spread-sheet!
The Novarossi-50 is $159, the header is $26 and the pipe is about $75- Looks like a $260 set-up. I guess I am only into it $135-$140 so I should not complain---
Dubb said he does NOT have an adapter for this and UT does not have one either--- [X(]
Cheers, thank Rc fenster! I appreciate your info.

RE: Help with Novarossi-50 Header
Razor-RCU, I know this is an old thread, but I ordered a Novarossi from Planethobby today. I wondered if anybody else used them and looked here in the speed forum. I bought the .50 a few years ago and used a copper tubing/elbow for a header. Not the lightest, but it works and was cheap. The thing that surprised me is how user friendly the thing is. It hand started easily the first time, and after a couple tanks was idling nicely. Thing is "on the button" as far as transition. Seems to idle and not load up, then scream. I haven't tached it, so I'm interested in hearing your numbers, and more about the engine in general. I'm surprised their not more popular. Am I missing something? The .60 I bought today was only $119. Ross
