Default K&B 100 DF

The speed Gods have shined on me!

A fellow flyer came up to me and asked me if I wanted a fast engine....free. The answer is always YES to this question.
Then he dropped the big engine in my hands. After I regained composure, I said, "Thank you very, very much!"
He gave me a perfect impeller too and he said I think I know where the housing and tuned pipe is, would you like the housing and pipe too? Hummmm let me think.
This motor has never been mounted or ran. I'd like to put a wood prop on it. But what kind of plane? Any ideas?

That was your winning lottery ticket. If you ever hope to win the lottery, you must dispose of this evil demon. I don't plan on winning the lottery, so my shop is a good place for you to dispose of this demon!!!!!!!!

I would even be willing to pay to ship this demon SO THAT ONE DAY YOU MIGHT WIN THE LOTTERY!!!!!!

FF:

You want us to help you find something fast for that creature? Sorry, you are much too close in time and distance for me to feel safe at night. Besides, I was told the VRDF engines were not allowed cause of a unfair advantage. And there you are with two of the darned things. How about a 200% diamond dust? Then, who will be willing to launch it for you? Oh, just way to much to handle, by.

You guys are good, LOL

It's not quite twice the power of the 46 but it's less than 1 1/2 times the weight. A 150% to 175 % clipped wing Diamond Dust maybe?
I wonder if it will want to torque left at take off? .....Ya think?

Used to use the K&B 100 in the old Ducted Fan days. My aerospace machinist friend made a special carb for it and a titanium rod. Used to run it on 12.5% nitro with 22% oil in a Ramtec fan turning 24,500 on the ground. Made about 18 lbs of thrust. The sound the motor and fan made was brutal. Took my Vortex Supreme Sport Jet Design to 256 mph out of a dive. It's a great motor if you can keep it together (hence the titanium rod). We also used to have to change out the head button every 4th flight or so. If not, the compression and heat weakened the aluminum and the next run, the compression would spit out the plug or just rip the head button open like a beer can! The extra volume from the carb. plus some special porting inside the motor and the increased nitro content, raised the compression from 6:1 to better than 8.5:1...Needless to say, it makes an awesome speed motor. Some day, I'll design a speed plane around it. I've never seen a motor make more power than the K&B 100. Good luck. Be sure the wings are really strong...lol...

I think you would have to be careful not to go too big with a delta or else end up with a real dog. One of those FAI pylon designs enlarged somewhat would be a good choice.

i am slowly learning the speed engines. i wasn't aware until this year that OPS engines were something special, k&b drum rotor, OS VR? engines. Can someone make a list of the alltime great speed engines? let's say 1 - 10, what are your top 10 speed engines or 1 through 5?

thanks, david
