Default Laser Arrow with Jett .50??

Im going to start building my laser arrow and I am going to use a Jett .50 on it. What would be the best prop for it and what speed can I expect? Any building tips or areas that need to be beefed up? I hope it will balance since I am using the elevons on it.

8.8x9 APC 40 pylon is what Dub Jett sold me for the Jett fire.50 for my whiplash

or 9x9 APC or 8x10 APC would be worth trying

seal the hinge gap top AND bottom

laser arrows are not very fast models, they are very good fun though.
if you thin down the wing section it would be a lot better but as a speedy model they have too much drag.

depends on what you call fast, over 120 is fast imo and it will be.

Default Laser Arrow with Jett .50??

sorry, i wasnt very helpful in the above post.
i got my laser arrow kit around 9 months ago and it took me less than one week to have it in flying condition, it builds very fast and the fit of the parts is incredible, the only modification i made whilst building was to leave off the plywood launching handle underneath, anyone launching this model holds it by the leading edge and just lets go.
this stops the ply handle getting ripped out or pushed in after a few landings.
on the elevons where the control horn attaches, put some sixteenth ply flush with the surface (top and bottom) to stop the horn crushing the fairly soft elevon wood, i wish i did!
my arrow had a irvine 46 at first and it went very well with vertical launches, then it had an os 45 fsr and full pipe, it was awesome, probably clocking about 100 mph.
i had to use that engine for another model so now it has only got a sc 40 but it is still a lot of fun even with this mesasly powerplant!
with your 50 i would expect around 120 like you said.
if i was to build another for speed i would thin down the wing section to make it less draggy, its too thick to go REALLY fast.
it will balance just fine, balance it where the instructions tell you to, i did and havent altered it since.fuel proof the firewall really well.
have fun, dan
heres mine.......

I have an outlaw with a webra 32 on it and it does 120, this arrow will be faster than it. It does build quick, I got it all framed up just today

The Outlaw defies the laws of physics, my 36 one can keep up with my tuned MVVS40 Dust???????????????? figure that
Your Arrow may be quicker, but theres a lot of drag, a well known UK pilot came down with his, had a quick 60! on it, we clocked it at 95MPH, it was as fast going up as it was on the flat. the airframes max speed for that engine had been reached

And then build a Outlaw for the Jett 50 ( there wouldn't be enough swear words to use for the speed of it ) wonder if it'd still prophang.........
Ok jokes aside, the Arrow is really nice for low passes n stuff, its really stable, but the Rapier which is the follow on is even better, esp when you thin it

well ran into a problem, the jett engine sits in the mount and then the muffler hits, so the engine will have to be raised up about a 1/4 inch, that will throw the thrust line off right? or will it be ok?

i read a review in a magazine of the arrow and the reviewer used a larger engine with a low muffler. it fouled with the leading edge, so he cut a bit of the sheeting away and put in some rolled 1/64 plywood to the shape of the muffler-problem solved.
if it was me(im lazy) i would pack the engine up with some 1/4 ply.
you wont notice any difference in the flying.

ummm you should have turned the carb around, cranked the engine right over and had it Outlaw style, that would have made it a bit more aerodynamic, looking good tho.

There is really no good way to turn the engine sideways like the outlaw as that is only a balsa rib there.

Yes I raised the engine up about 1/4 inch and on the muffler side I had to raise it a little more so it is tilted slightly.

Well I got to fly it today, WOW! I was using a 9x7 prop tunring about 17,600 and it is a blast. Im going to try a 9x9 this weekend and lean it out a little more

I have a video of itHERE
But its about 16 meg so it would take a while on dialup.
