quicki500 twin?what do ya think??
hi all,
i'm as pure as they come when it comes to speed.
i spend lots of cash on high end engines.any how i have a matching pair of rossi's,of coarse the high end ones.
was wondering if it would be worth the effort to pop them on my dodger, even better,i do have a third matching rossi to put on the nose.
would it be too heavy?
would there be too much prop drag?
would there be too much fludder(i hate that word)?
what speed could i expect?
am i insane?
i'm looking to hear over the 200mph mark(around 300,i figure i'm hitting 150 with a single, what if i add one or possibly two more)?
would love to hear some feed back weather pro or con.
been on my mind for sometime now, just need the motivation from you guys in weather or not to attempt the project.
thanks,sean

It would be silly to put 3 engines on a Q500 plane. It will be way over weight, and you still wouldn't get your 200... Plus all that overweight would be in front of the CG: major balancing probs...
Them Q500 wings are too thick. They're not suited for those speeds.
Would be cool though, a tri-motor speed plane!
I'd try to come up with your own design if you really want to go through with this.

Twin Quickee
My racing partner made a twin Quickee a couple years ago using Webra .28s. He had to mangle the wing pretty good to get engine mounts built into it. As to speed, I think it only did about 120mph, but sure sounded good doing it.

As far as two or three engines, I only have this comment.
If it takes 3 minutes to boil an egg,
how long does it take to boil two eggs?
If you have two engines, your props are not spinning twice as fast and we all know that it is RPM's that make us go...

Now if you could get 2 engines to spin one prop you may have an advantage. Twice the power so you could use extra power to turn a high pitch prop.
Only thing though is how to do this. Who knows but maybe theres ways to do this. It may take coming up with your own design on plane to use.

twin Q-500
About 5 years ago I built a twin scat cat. It sounded good and flew great but not as fast as a single engine. If one engine quit and you didn't throttle back on the other engine quick enough, it would go into the prettiest flat spin you ever seen and there was nothing you could do to get out of it. The third time destroyed it for good! Been there, done that! Paul:cry:

Scat Cat.
i used to have one of them about a year ago. That was one fun flying plane and fast with pretty much any engine in nose.
I had many good times with mine until i tried to fly through a tree and use it as Christmas Ornaments.

airhog,
on a couple occaisons my dad built a quickie500 and both times used a pair of Rossi 15's in them. I'll see if I can dig up a picture or two if you're interested. It sure screamed....in sound, not so much in speed. It was moving but it sounded like it was going a million miles an hour...cool sound when the 2 rossi's were 'in-sync'.
