Shrike 40 Build
I have obtained a partaily finished Shrike 40 kit from a friend and would like to build the rest and cover as a winter project. What kind of speeds can i expect with this setup...

Ditto on the speed. Nice looking and flying airplane. The only complaint I had, along with a few others, is it may snap out of a hard high speed turn. My next one will have a rounded leading edge towards the wing tip so the sharp leading edge towards the fuse can act as a stall strip. The guys in aerodynamics thinks it could be the fins, despite their size, being taken out of the air flow at a high AOA.

What I do not like about mine, is I had a deadstick one time and it dropped like a rock! This was more of a engine just died high up and I could not even really flatten it out much. It is built strong so I had no damage but even thinking about trying to turn into an approach for landing was a waste of time. So keep your engine running!

I've had a simple 46 pro, a Ultra thrust muffler from Performance Specialites and a 9/7 prop. Turns around 16k up here at 5000ft and is a mover. Landings must be shallow as it is not a floater and will drop like a brick and most times you will use all of your elevator. Shut your engine down right before touchdown and slide it on in.

Here is a picture of my last Shrike, I did a bite of kit bashing to it. the fuse was widened 3/8 of an inch so that it would except a 60 size motor mount. there is only a micro servo in the main compartment for the throttle. The elevator servo is in the aft compartment under the white hatch you can see in the picture. Elevator is set up on a Pull-Pull system for very positive control.
Power is from a YS-61 rear exhaust on a tuned pipe, the pipe also helped the balance. Engine was turning a 12x12 APC at a little over 12000 rpm.
I don't know how fast it was, but it was the fastest prop plane at the field.
