RE: Kyosho Phantom
Well I have a few flights on the Phantom now. It flys just like the Kelly, straight as a arrow, and does exactly what you tell it to do. The Phantom has good ground handling as well.
I love doing low fly-bys. I can put the airplane 3 fee off the deck and let go of the controls, and it will fly nice and level, without any input.
Just a all around fun airplane.

RE: Kyosho Phantom
Carapis,
I just got my Phantom and I'm thinking about using the 55AX myself. What muffler did you use? From you pics it looks like the new Slimline Q-series. I was looking at that one hoping that it would fit in the cowl. I hate cutting a cowl more than I have to, especially one that fits as nice as this one does. In your pictures it looks like it's hanging out the bottom....is that how it fit?

RE: Kyosho Phantom
I've been looking at the cowl on this all night, and I've concluded my best bet is to use a 4-stroke and see if I can swing the muffler. Even If I can't the cutout for a FS muffer will be much less than one that fits the OS 55AX.
I'm leaning towards a YS 63S now. I've always been an OS man, and I have lots of their 4-strokes, but I've always wanted a screaming YS and this looks like the plane for it!

RE: Kyosho Phantom
Maidened my Phantom yesterday. Here's some pics at the field and of the YS-63 install. I was initially concerned about engine cooling but I opened up some more vent space in the botton and two of the scale cooling vents in the top and after 7 minutes of flight the engine exhibited no signs of overheating. Flights were great. It handles great on the ground and our field is bumpy grass. It didn't have enough up elevator to keep the tail firmly planted while taxing so after the first flight I increased the elevator throw. This is no aerobat, the rolls are nice and slow, but once you get it on it's side and crank in up elevator it corners on rails! It was rock steady in the air and I was very surprised on how nice it slowed for landings. Both landings were just beautiful.
One of our members shot some video, so If I can get my hands on it I will post.

Steve hi
I am v.happy that you are airborn with the PHANTOM 70, loocks very-very nice !!![sm=thumbs_up.gif]
Becareful not overdo it with the moves of the Alrns & alvtrs, it start's to float & woable arount with very litle control fealing (I learn that with the haaard way). BRAVO again it is beautiful !

I have been to reno and seen this plane and you would not believe how small it is. the wing tips have a cord about 6 inches. and the 4 blade prop design is the wildest i have ever seen too. it was running about 240-250 on the course and every one else was about 200-210. the most impressive flight was the F-7 twin at 400mph just 20 feet from the ground.

ORIGINAL: Plane killer
I have a Saito 100 that needs a home and I am looking at one of these planes, do you think the 100 is too big for this plane?

My prime consideration for the YS was minimizing cutting up that beautiful cowling. One thing about having the Phantom....there's not many of them out there so it really attracts attention.

RE: Kyosho Phantom
Thanks Steve,
I realize it is overkill, in the end I guess I kind of wonder is the 100 just too big for this plane?
As long as it fit's ok and is not cumbersome I will go for it.
Looks like you did a great job on yours and excellent engine choice.

RE: Kyosho Phantom
When I saw this plane, I wanted it, so this was one of those situations that I bought it first and then figured out how to outfit it. Having the plane on hand made it easier to plan what to put in it. I would imagine that if you put the Satio on it's side that you could have the stock muffler hang out much like I have on the YS. I acutally used an OS .70 pipe to get the angle right. You should have plenty of power to spare!
One thing I found out. I fly off of grass and this thing is a little tippy, so I set up a switch on my radio to crank in more up elevator just for taxing.
