Hi all !!!!
I want to share with you my patriot , i building 3 years ago .
The max. speed was clocked at 170 mph whit radar gun but , is no at made level flight , is whit nose down and full trhotle at 45ΒΊ approximately.
engine ....... rossi 53
exhaust ..... tuned pipe 7.5 cc Mac
plug........... R5 o.s.
fuel............ Power Master 10%
prop........... 10x8 APC
RPM........... 15,550
Some one know , if the pipe 7.5 cc y too short for this engine ??? there is much difference between 7.5 cc and 8.5 cc ??? I'm use this because i have a ultra sport whit a ys 45 whit the same pipe
that you change for more speed ??? fuel , prop, plug ???
Any comments will be welcome , thanks .
*****sorry for my english*****

Nice looking Patriot. I would think a 9x8 or 9x9 prop tuned for a bit more rpm would be faster.
Your English is fine, better then some of your counterparts that live around here.

MPH or KPH? Not to be a drag... and I may be completely wrong.... But a 10x8 would have to be spinning some 23000rpm to do 170MPH with a zero drag plane.... I'm not calling you out or anything... I just don't understand how.

To quiet down some of our beloved tecno-freaks (admidtted very knowledgable) you are going to have to stuff a Jett 60LX in that thing with 8.8 X 8.75 apc and have a radar gun photo. If that wont get it done, go to a BVM 96, 10 X 10 and crank to 24-26,000. That should do it, but more than 170 mph, maby. If you need more speed, stuff the 60LX in a good Q-40 formula, it will fit, honest. ENJOY Bro #119

Nice lookin' plane![sm=thumbup.gif]
Great color's
Don't worry about the "Speed Police" A.K.A. "The RPM Detectives"![:'(][:'(][:'(]
As long as you are having fun enjoy it!
171 mph or 169 mph no one know's the difference and no one really care's. (except the one's who have nothing to do but work calculator's)[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
That last past looked more like a 166.876 mph but I'll let it slide.[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][X(]
Rev on my Brother's!

Your plane has an awesome looking design and choice of colors! I'll bet you are pretty happy with it.
That mountain in the background looks like one solid rock, stay away from it!.

Speedboy,
This is one of the best looking models I have ever seen on RCU, especially the wing graphics. I'll bet it will inspire many copies, and I can assure you of at least one.
As to the radar speed - yes if one takes the ground rpm and the prop pitch you come up very short of 170 mph. But there is a lot more to it than such a simple calculation.
First, all engines unload when they get into the air. Since your pipe may be slightly short and sized for a 7.5 cc engine, it may allow the engine to unload even more than normal. It would be nice to have a recording analysed to see what it is getting up to. While 18K would not surprise me too much, I doubt it is reaching 24K.
Second, the prop's true pitch may be slightly more than marked. Many props pitch are reference to the backside of the blades airfoil, while the true zero lift line of the prop's airfoil is several degrees more. Net result is higher speed.
Third, your best speed may have wind assist. The gradiant between ground airspeed and the speed of air higher up can be fairly large.
Fourth and most important, assuming your dive was at 45 degrees, and the model weighs around 6 pounds, gravity was adding two additional horsepower to the 2+ hp that the engine should be putting out. With this happening, I expect the pipe on the engine was actually holding down the diving speed.

Tank you all guys for your comments.
Hi samtech:
Yes i speak from MPH , if i was speaking about KPH (MAYBE ) i wouldnt open this Post.
I think , if i would have 23,000 rpm whit 10x8 on the ground , probably my patriot explode in the air jeje
Some friends who have seen it fly, do not understand either because flies at that speed.
And believe me, this airplane has created something of controversy in the track where I fly, specially whit a friend , right Capy jeje
Probably the points that use highplains explains are the key to understand like is that I obtain that speed, I believe that it is the right
In the next pic , you can see the speed obtain whit muffler stock (black) , sometimes was 260kph and then 252 kph and then 264kpm and then 254kpm , oscillating between 252 to 264 , I have 254 in this one because was the last past , and the picture was taken after the landing.
When change the muffler stock to pipe increase the speed at 170 mph or 273 kph … I just make the conversion .
I will try to take video and some pics to radar at 170mph (273kph) and I show you as soon as possible
*****sorry for my english again ******

Speedboy, I am sorry, but.............I am gonna have to copy that wing design, maybe the whole color scheme. Very nice, excellent work. I like the mountains in the background. And I don't care what anybody says, that plane looks like 170 just sitting on the runway. Good luck and enjoy. Alex.
