What a bargian!!
One of our club members was trading in all his R/C stuff for a set of golf clubs, so I went by to see what all he had to get rid of. After buying a box of servos, receivers, and engines, I noticed this plane hanging in the garage. I asked how much he wanted for it and he said "50 bucks and its yours". I am not familiar with the plane, so I am asking if anyone can identify the kit and give me some info such as CG. The engine is a Rossi .61 rear exhaust and as soon as I got it home I put some fuel in the tank and it fired on the first flip, even after sitting up for a number of years. He told me it has only one flight on the airframe and the engine was barely broke in. So I guess I got one heck of a bargain. Just need to charge the battery and do a load test to make sure it is still good and fuel and fly.

RE: What a bargian!!
NICE!!
That is a Great Planes F-14 tomcat.
Good flying plane....
Rossi .61 for power should make it move quite nicely!
Set the engine down about 500-800 rpm from ground peak, and go fly it (just go by ear... point is not to launch at peak mixture).
Indeed one nice bargan. Looks well built too.
Usually ya can look here
http://www.greatplanes.com/techsupport/technotes.html
but it does not have the specs...
But here is the manual
http://manuals.hobbico.com/gpm/gpma0435-manual.pdf
"The balance point is shown on the plan (CG), and is
located 8-1/4" inches forward of the aileron trailing
edge at rib W7"
IF you look at the manual, you can see which rib is W7 - basically mid-span
Enjoy the plane!
Bob
EDIT - one suggestion ---- somewhere along the line, replace the plastic spinner. The rossi turns up quite nicely, and those screw-on spinners are not very well suited for much over 12,000 rpm. Consider dave brown or true-turn, or something similar. I can not tell what prop is on there, but you will want to use along the lines of an APC 11x7 or 11x8. Let the engine turn up. If its running good now, stick with that prop size.

RE: What a bargian!!
Thanks for the quick reply bob27s. I can honestly say that I am going to fly it like i stole it. What is a good recommended speed prop for the Rossi .61?

RE: What a bargian!!
I am going to get a new battery before I fly it. The one in it charged fine and load tested OK, but yes I agree, I don't need to take any chances with an old battery. I ran the engine using some Power Master 15% nitro for a few minuets. Will the Rossi run on higher nitro or do I risk damage to the engine? It's 80 miles to the nearest hobby shop, and our club only has 15% nitro for sell.

RE: What a bargian!!
I have used the same engine for a few years now in my Sea Kaos (floats and wheels) Using 15% nitro powermaster with 18% total oil, Bolly 11.5/7 or APC 11/7. Does not want to get onto the pipe I have with 11/8.
If your engine has the inflight mixture control (a separate lever on the needle valve base for another servo) Make sure it is locked down with the locking nut or inflight mixtures will change.

Indeed and mine runs on two shims just fine. It was purchased from Sig ten or twelve years ago when they were importing Rossi.
By the way acam37 it and another, Rossi 45 (morris hobbies version) are the only two Rossi's I have and they are superb particularly in throttle response. Likely the best response of any similar engines I have ever used.
