Default Whiplash/Garmin GPS combo works

Many thanks to Rick (Bagosticks) Broussard (ACM) for a super
speed plane and electronics test bed, and Garmin Electronics
for the new Minni GPS, the GEKO 201.
The cold north breeze made the eyes tear but we got it
to 197 MPH. I'll wait for warmer weather to do some engine
tweeking.
Geo Asteris holding the Whiplash for the camera...

Default Whiplash/Garmin GEKO GPS

The lettering is small but the digital cam will get them.
Many thanks to Geo Asteris (super patteren pilot) for
holding the plane still enough to take pics...

Glad the Garmin is water proof. And I hope fuel proof.
Had to make long smooth level runs so that the GPS could get
the max speed tracking recorded.
Short radar type runs didn't do the job.

Hi Rick:
Got an idea. Bring some Extremes with you to the
Joe Nall event. With some touchie feelie then
you could sell them all without UPS.

What is holding that GPS to the Airframe? One fast aileron roll and it'll go into orbit!

Default Geko, Jett 60 etc

Syd,

Cool idea! I was in Dick's sporting goods today (a national chain) and noticed they carry the Geko for 99 bucks. Couldn't remember if it was the 201 or 101. Does it matter? It's a cool little unit.

Should have my 60 BSE FIRE soon. 60 size power in a 50 case. Neat huh? Figure it should be just the ticket for the Whiplash. Oughtta twist a 9X10 pretty good.

I was also wondering how you mounted the Geko. Looks like you've got some sort of bracket with a screw holding it on.

Talk to you soon.

Default GEKO 201 bracket

Hi Gene & Blue Skyy;
When I talked to the Garmin people they said that I would
need the 201 for my Whiplash needs.
I don't use the AAA batteries. Instead I use small litho-poly
single cell. I run the leads to the battery compartment
(which is not water tight). I put the battery up front
next to the fuel tank.
The 201 has a 4-40 nut countersunk in the middle of
the rear case. The 201 is mounted on a soft rubber pad
with a 4-40 bolt running up from the Whiplash bottom.
I then made a small "L" bracket using 2ea 1-72 screws
into the battery comparment on one end and an 8-32
aluminum bolt screwed into a hard point on the Whiplash
body with a rubber groment around it .
Now I can roll as fast as it will go..
