midget mustang engine
Hello RC fans.
First time for me on the forum and i like to ask u guys a quiestion.
I bought myself a arf midget mustang. on the box it says that a 2 stroke .60 engine is good for it. But as a dutch speedfreak i checked this forum and i see that many midget mustang owners have " Tuned" there airplane with bigger engines.
I wanted to go for the 120 ax from o.s.
In the shop where i bought my mustang they say i have to stick with the standard engine .60 because a bigger engine is more havy .
Can u guys give me some advise or tips what to do and maby what to adjust in the mustang to allow it to fly with a bigger engine??
Thanks and have flying fun.

....Welcome to R/C Universe....[sm=thumbup.gif]
Look at the OS .91 It has the same size as the .61, but with a lot more power. With a 12-8
prop it will give good speed, and a nice dependable ringed engine.

I have an OS 1.08 stuffed in mine. it'll work but balance it good and reinforce the firewall inside and out along with landing gear. However if I had to do it all again, I'd go with a good .90. Its really a mouthful up their in the front. I have an ST 90 in the front of a Shoestring, That would be my choice.

RE: midget mustang engine
just put a saito .91 in mine ...
looks great my uncle had the idea to mount inverted tho.
so now im really worried about destroying the engine on a nose over.
as it protrudes from the bottom of the cowl at least half an inch.
is there anything i could do to help protect against this now?
ive seen the tops of those saitos get ripped right off from other planes after inverted contact with pavement!
i was thinking we can now make time to place the engine right side up but we have cut the cowl so much!?...

RE: midget mustang engine
thx... no tuning issues so far. actully the best running engine ive had very easy to start no dead sticks yet...
we have made a solution to protect the engine so no biggie now.
we will keep an eye on the tuning issue the fuel tank lines up pretty well with the carb so it may be ok....

RE: midget mustang engine
what solution did you have with engine protruding out the cowl?...
thing seems to nose over a bit too easy for me.i have seen others have the gear fixed to the fuselage instead of wings .
gonna try on on that mod if i can find a nice light weight set of gear that fits...
oh yeah MM's fly like a dream by far the most loved plane in my fleet... had it forever with a webra .60
now were doing formula 1 pylon with either OS .91s or Saito 91 4 strokes.the nose over problem wasnt nearly as bad with the webra funny tho the balance has not changed much.maybe does need some weight shifted back anyways?
flew for the first time today with 4 stroke power very cold and windy outside nothing more than a few pylon turns and packed up for the day.handled very well with a big prop what an awesome plane! ...
