Default Bobcat video

Heres a video of my Bobcat,..flown by club president Dan.....I have a 'How Fast' airspeed instrument in the plane...but forgot to read it after this flight. Flight before read 113.4 mph (diving pass)...and 90.4 mph straight and level flight.
http://home.dc.rr.com/maurie/Bobcat%20March%2018.wmv

New O.S. 55 with only about an hour run time on it....Springair retracts,....no rudder servos.....Hitech flat servo mounted in stab.
Glow plug bailed out during gear check pass.

Could you Doppler wizards take a look at this video and see what kinda speeds we were achieving in this flight?...thanks

George

Downwind pass at the 44 second mark was 110 mph.
seemed to look and fly well. What prop were you using?

Nice flying plane.

I flew my friends off grass, really bad could just get off and grass everywhere.[:'(]

We used a Tower .75 with a 11x7P and a 3 bladed 10x7P, both flew well, the 3 bladed really screamed though. With the .75 it looked about the same speed, maybe a shade faster but it's hard to tell when one's live and the other is taped.

Hi Rich

My first Bobcat (non-retract) version had a Tower .75 in it too. Best top speed I got out of that one on radar was 110 mph with an APC 11X7. It was faster with a Graupner 11X8. I too played around with the 3 bladed pusher props,...but they made more noise than speed,..so went back to the 2 blades.

CashPro George is it a big speed difference between the Tower 75 and the OS 55. I to had a Tower 75 on my first Bob and now I have the retract ver. but my Tower 75 is done (think bearings) But I also has a OS 55 sitting awaiting for a home.

Hi patzane

I'd say the speed is real similar with the Tower .75 and the O.S.55....when I get this engine a little more broken in,..and put a tuned pipe on it and move up to a 11X8 I think I can easliy squeeze another 10mph out of it.....maybe more. I'd surely suggest going ahead and mounting that OS 55,.....I'm really impressed with it.

I'm swinging a 12x12 APC-E prop at 11,200rpm on my Bobcat 50 and the plane only goes about 120mph level and 140ish? out of a dive. The plane is so freaking draggy!!! Anyway I'm going to be moving up to a higher wind motor soon and try to get the prop up to 13,500 or so and see if it will even do 140 level like that. It is a fun plane to fly no doubt tho, really stable and good flyer and mine is easy to land even at 11 pounds.

thanks CrashPro I just might do that and if I don't like it I can alway change it out later. Also I see you are using spring air retract. Which one do you have. I have been waiting on a set from robart for the past 3 months and just can't wait any longer.

You guys inspired me, I downloaded the doppler software and checked my original bobcat video. The setup was a Tower .75, 4th tank of fuel, 12x6 zinger and no retracts. Best speed 108 mph.

http://www.sprut.de/electronic/soft/scope.htm

Nitro Models makes a plane like that...Kangaroo......only $79.00.....I've got one and hope to get it in the air this weekend.
Maybe I'll get some video of it to post.

That's a good price. It's a little different, it's a ripoff of the Force One plane. It should fly well a friend of mine built the model, I think it was a Balsa USA Kit, it flew well, sounded loud because of the air-raid siren effect of the prop going through the wing.

Who knows what engine and prop would give a bobcat the most speed? im thinking either an os 61 fx or an os 75 ax.
I want to stick to os engines and asp props. I have an os 55 ax on mine now with an apc 11x7 but i think it is just a bit slow.
I dont know if it's the prop or an underpowered engine.
