Default Mini Pulse with jett 50 BSE!

I've been racking my brain for a crazy fast...sleeper plane. I used to have a mini pulse and loved it. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=EFL2375 It would do 80 mph with a 480 brushless so im sure it will do alot more with a jett. I guess some of my questions would be how hard would it be to balance this plane since its made for a electric setup. I figured up how much all the electric stuff is going to weight. For the battery 7.7 oz, brushless motor 3.1 oz, and speed control 1.2 oz. That would come to a total of 12 oz. Ok and know for the nitro setup. The motors I've been thinking about using are Jett bse .35 it weights 13.9 oz, a Jett BSE .50 it weights 16.8 and a O.S .32 sx it weights 12.4 oz. I was thinking about running a 4 oz fuel tank. Does 4 ozs of fuel weight 4 oz? I could counter alot of the weight with the receiver battery which the plane does not use when its electric. It uses the main battery and ESC to power the servos ect. Besides making the motor fit I dont think it would be that hard of a build. It should be pretty fast. The plane weights 26 oz electric so its a pretty light plane. What do you guys think...

Oughta balance about an inch ahead of the L.E.
First time you flip the prop the firewall comes off with the engine...
If you get the engine started, the prop wash blows the tail feathers off...

Ummm...but I'm only joking (so are you...correct!?)

Yellowsierra02:

The airframe is designed for a lightweight aplication, E power. I doubt that it would hold up to high performance glow power and speeds over 50mph for long, not intended to do it. Get yourself a Viper, Diamond Dust, Phenom or other designed airframe for high speed for about the same money. The Q-500 type airframe is a good sport flyer with the throws cranked up and will keep your learning curve up for a long time. Yea, the Jett 60LX with black pipe would be a winner on about any airframe. Pulls a big prop with lots of rpm sitting in a 40 sized case. EnJOY

if you are looking for a sleeper I have seen trainers (avistar) that folks have knocked a few wing bays off of the wings, say a 4"-8" total span chop. stupid fast , and still look like a dorky trainer.

How fast do you think a Avistar with its stock wing and say a Jett 60 BSE would be. I could really sling my 80 mph brushless mini pulse around it didnt do any damage at all. Theres a guy that running a OS .25 in his mini pulse but then again a .25 OS and a Jett .60 are to totally different animals. I guess it will give me something to think about.

I think you would be faster if you put that jett 50 in one of those 10.00 dollar foam gliders it is more aerodynamic than the mini pulse!

Wow I just watched the video and read the threads. Thats pretty amazing a $49 will run like that. Im starting to lean towards a Avistar with a fast motor. Either way I will post up my decision. The main reason I was wanting the mini pulse was because I wanted a smaller/lighter plane. I can barely land my pulse XT40 at my local field. The avistar should still fix that problem because they seem to come in real slow but still capable of fast speeds!

It may "copme in real slow" with a light engine but with the larger glow engine it will likely glide/land like a pair of pliers. Think of a Magnum with a nose-heavy CG! [X(]

Hey guys. Wheres a good place to buy webra engines? I cant seem to find anybody in the us that sells them. I was wanting to look at a speed 36 or speed 32. They should be faster than a OS .32sx right?

are you still looking for a gas engine for that mini pulse? it will just come apart in the air and it will not hold up to those engines. a stock webra .32 will turn a apc 8x7 at 17,500 way to much engine for that pulse. if you had a park 450 in it a os 15 would be plenty.

I dont know what I want. [] I have a Pulse Xt with OS AX .55(clocked 103mph before ultra thrust pipe), E-filte Mini Funtana, FunJet 1400watt (clocked 149mph!) retired... I bought the the Pulse XT to fly at my feild because I wanted a sporty fast plane. Its a Sweaaaaat! plane but my local flying field does not have enough landing strip. I have to drive 45 mins to a bigger AMA field to safely land it. I want something that is fast but still able to slow down to land. The pulse xt comes in to hot for my local flying field. I would say it takes 30-40 yards to get it stopped after it has touched down. Thats if you land nice and smooth. Its really bad about bouncing if you dont land perfect. I used to have a mini pulse and it would take half the distance to land. I guess because it weighed half as much. I was trying to watch some videos of the Viper 500 to see if it would slow down when coming in for a landing. I cant find any really good video that shows it landing. I know the Avistar would be a good choice because it would come in slow and could still possible be fast. Im just afraid the avistar may bore me. The two planes that im leaning toward are the Viper 500 and the avistar! Which ever I get there going to be equiped with a Jett .60LX! I would really like to have a plane that would go 150 mph...Viper! but I want something that I can land. Another thing about the Viper is it does not have any tail wheel for steering. I would like to mod that and I've heard the stock wheels are junk. I would like to know what kind of wheels are a good choice for that plane. Does the Viper come in fairly slow? This video has a good landing with the Viper. It lands at 1 min 15 sec. http://youtube.com/watch?v=xbbtl9_g4d0 Thats should be no problem at my field. I think I just talked myself into a Viper! haha

I've looked for a thread that shows hwo to hop-up the Viper 500 but I havent had any luck. Does anybody have any sugestions or could share a thread. I guess I would like to know how to strengthin it, add a tail wheel, make it fly beter... That type of thing.

Thanks

Any good Q-500 airplane, properly set up, and with good technique -- will come in to land a nearly trainer speed.

Only 3.5 lbs, 500 sq inches...... very lightly loaded.

There are many posts on how to hop up any Q-500 for just speed use.

Easy. Cut 5" off of each wing tip. Shorten the span to 40". Just square off the naked wing tip with a sheet of balsa and recover.
Wing loading is still very reasonable.
Bolt on ANY decent .46-.50 size engine.

Clip wing with a TT46pro and jett-stream muffler >130mph
Jett 46 or Jett 50 >140 mph
Jett 60LX or Q-500 racing engine >>150mph

We have a 4 lane that is 90 degs of the landing strip. 20 feet over from the 4 lane is a fence. At the other side of the fence our runway starts. I would say its 50 yards long. We also have a landing strip 90 degs from the first. It pretty long...maybe a 100 yards. I dont like using it because you have to fly over a house and tree line than when you get past them you have to drop fast to come in for a landing. You ussally gain so much speed from droping over the tree line that the shorter runway is easier to land on. I can stand at the tree line and bring my plane in that way but we have our tables set up at the other end of the field so I have to walk back and forth. After 3-4 flights I would be walking a mile. haha. Hey come to think of it I have a video of my mini Funtana Flying over our field. I will post it up as soon as it uploads on Youtube.

just a matter of practice..... even with the clip wings. Big wings do help it slow down a bunch more.

(actually having the engine idling slows it down more than landing dead stick, and provides better low speed control)

if he has to dive over a tall obsticle to make the field, even a pulse is not going to slow down that quickly.

Hey Bob,

How fast do you think a Stock Avistar and your Jett 60lx would be. Would a 10 x 10 prop be a good choice for that combo. If the Avistar would do 120-130 I may just go that route but I think the Viper would come in slow enough to fly at my field.
