New Whiplash Picture
Here is my Whiplash I just finished. Paint is Automotive PPG Deltron Base Coat / Clear Coat.
Colors: Fender Guitar Company, Eric Clapton Metallic Green, and Brite White and black automotive pin striping.
Rear servos Hitec 605s, Engine .50 Sport Jett.
Should have a flight report on Saturday.

Yes it is the Super Sport muffler. Lets just call it a gift from a friend.
The Whiplash is fully fiberglass composite, I wouldn't dream of putting ultracoat on such a surface.
I should get a better pic, this one looks like the green is very light, when in fact its a darker green similar to a bottle of Rolling Rock Beer. Must have been the light... (If you look at my Avatar pic, that shows the green more accurately (Its the same paint)).

Servo harms
Daven,
Please dont fly your lash with these little and weak
servo harms or you take the risk to have big problems.
Use aluminum harms or bigger plastic one so they wont break!

The arms on this are Hitec Giant Scale Arms.
They are not aluminum, but they are very thick, and come with a metal collar that fits arount the output arm.
I don't see a problem with them.

Wish I could see it fly, I'm sure it will eat a hole in the ozone layer.
As for the colour I think it's good, green and white really stand out in the air especially in cloudless blue sky.

I got the Fender colors by accident. When I started racing, everyone seemed to be using just about every color except green.
About 3 years ago I ordered a Vortex Q500 from Chuck Bridge and asked for a darker Metallic Green, and thats the color he choose. I've used it ever since.
Heres a picture.

Well, lets just say, all did not go as planned.
Engine fired up nice, and was running great. First handlaunch the plane was let go as instructed, it leveled out, and slowly sunk although full elevator was applied. Basically did a full throttle landing and broke the prop. No damage.
This time I took off with high elevator rate, and I was able to get her going, although a little shaky.
Made about 4 passes as I trimmed it out. Low rate ailerons were a tad hotter than I like, but low elevator didn't seem quite enough. I switched to high rate elevator, but that seemed like too much so I switched back to low. I overrolled the plane on one end of the field and decided to split s out of the inverted position. She didn't pull out, and went in at full throttle.
Engine appears to be ok after a good cleaning, but everything else is a write off.
Although I only had about a minute of flight, I could tell once I got the throws straight, I would have really enjoyed the plane. I'm just happy I only paid $100 for the plane off RCU slightly damaged. If I had paid $400, I would be ticked (at myself, not the manufacturer).

Sorry for your loss. These deltas fly differently than a plane with wings. Takes a while to get used to. A sport jett 50 wide open on an untrimmed, fully fueled nose heavy plane with throw issues is more than a handful. Everything you experienced has been discussed in detail here from the shakey lauches, to elevator throws, to nose heavy plane with full fuel tank.
This plane will fly at half throttle. Do a few flight slow and just do easy circles. Trim it out at half speed and gradually increase speed and adjust throws accordingly. And if you get into trouble cut the throttle. It will take a pretty good hit, but not a jett 50 wide open.

Don't worry too much man... he made things sound worse than they are...
And in addition, if I'm not mistaken, you have ordered the new version of the plane, which is a good deal lighter. This is bound to have a favorable effect on the handling characteristics...

I never said things were bad. I said they were different, as demonstraited by a very experienced pilot. You just need to slow things down a bit and practice a little. This flight lasted only one minute. Should have been higher and slower. Remember three mistakes high? At least be one mistake high. At 150 mph thats more than you think. I have a roo,a dust,a bte vortex, a mirage, four whiplash, a wild wiz to name a few deltas i have flown alot. They are easy to fly if you are familiar with them and hard to fly if your not.
Forget the launcher unless you put some sort of catapult on it. Better to have someone run and gently toss at a slight angle and a little right bank. Full throttle on takeoff with full throws then throttle back as you gain speed and altitude. I am not saying go too slow. 100 mph is fine. But 150 is not. The controls are very touchy at high speeds. Test the low rates as you bring the speed up to see if you like it. Land on high rates.
Make sure the CG is not too far forward or youll never hold the nose up especially on takeoff and landings.
It flies great, just dont do too much too fast.

I will admit, that the crash was 100% pilot error. I was overconfident and thought that with my experience this would be a piece of cake.
The speed did not get me, it was the different delta characteristics. The plane is a bit odd to pick up in the sky due to its odd shape, and the throws did not react like I am use to with my racing planes. I should have throttled back to half throttle after I got the thing in the air up to cruising altitude.
My whiplash was definately one of the earlier ones, and quite heavy, but it should have been ok.
