WM Dago Red and Jett 60LX?
What do you guys thank about a World Models Dago Red and my Jett 60 LX? Ive read alot of posts about the Dago Red and it looks like the YS 1.10 and a big prop works good. Do you think the Jett 60lx and a smaller prop ( 9x9- 10-8) would have a chance? This is a great looking plane! It has a huge spinner. I think its around 3 inches. Will my Jett engine rev higher with the Spinner on say a 10" prop than it would without the spinner? If the spinner is 3" than its really only cutting 7 inches on a 10inch prop. Does this sound right?
Thanks

RE: WM Dago Red and Jett 60LX?
Interesting question, I have seen similar posts on here before. There is a famous thread about a .40 sized P-51 and whether a 2 cy. or 4 cy. would be faster. I know this is a great combo but I think the YS-1.10 or even YS-91 would be better. After all it IS a P-51 so it should sound "special".
One guy had an OS-77DF engine in his Dago and reported some VERY high but unverified speeds.

RE: WM Dago Red and Jett 60LX?
My WM Dago Red has a (mildly modified ) Webra .50 with a Nelson/Ultra Thrust muffler and APC 10X8...it is a very nice combination. That is a great flying airplane...smooth...and will slow down nicely for landing.
Mine was "unofficially" radared at 120-125 with a Bushnell gun...
( accuracy is perhaps a little ? with those guns, but I wanna believe it )
What I like about that airplane is that it looks cool, and will also do just about any manuver that you can throw at it.
Edit: Actually the spinner is 3.25" and the 10" prop looks a little stubby with just 3 3/8" of blade sticking out either side. It takes a little bit of a take off roll, but once you get 'er airborne and the gear up... the pipe kicks in, it'll be "on step" by the down wind leg.

RE: WM Dago Red and Jett 60LX?
It will fly sorta like what Proptop described.
photo of the dago here is a 60L installation - full size pipe. I seem to recall he was flying with a 10x7.
The 10x6 or 10x7 would work well on a 60LX install. Trick would be the muffler installation. You really want to avoid using an extension pieces on the LX configuration.
My P-51 is about the same size as the WM aircraft. I think it might be a bit lighter. SJ-46 power, turbojett ---- has a 12x4 up front to actually slow it down for some scale appearance, and in part to keep the plan from destroying itself (not well made). I actually test flew it with a 9x7 prop. Has that same 3" size spinner.... looked goofy, but it flew.
The turbo-jett and LX are not quite the right combination. Works ok, but the regualar SJ-50 or 60L performs better on the turbo since it is set for a bit lower rpm.

why not run a 100lx instead of the .60 lx lol thats what i would specially if the 1.10ys fits unless trying to race under certain rules then then i would run the YS1.10 since can swing a bigger prop. it would give more low end thrust to help get you going on the take off then be on step before the first turn.

WeLL... I have the 60LX on order. I've had it on order for two weeks. I may just put the 60LX on a Phoenix models Strega and build a WM Dago red/YS 1.10 lator. I think I would be happier with that combo. Its would be awesome to have a Superchargered 4C P-51. I wonder if its to late to cancel my Jett motor order.

Naah, keep it comming or ask nicely to change it to a FIRE. For a speed plane There is no other engine that has the power to weight in that very useable rpm range as the 60LX, period. Props are plentifull for it.

The FIRE configuration 60LX is more suitable for a dedicated speed plane where you can 1) accomodate/mount the pipe properly 2) use smaller props and tune for higher rpm.
For the mustang here, FIRE is not the right approach on either count.
Side exhaust with a pipe is possible (per photo), but it will be marginally better than the stock side exhaust setup. The little bit of extra power would be best used keeping the pipe longer to turn a 10x7 prop.

RE: WM Dago Red and Jett 60LX?
Hey Bob. Would I be beter off getting the black pipe and a extension. Dub said the black pipe is for pylon props but with the extension would it make it more like the gold pipe? I just dont want to lose alot of power/rpm. I figure the gold pipe with the extension is going to be down on revs.
Thanks

no, you are better of extending the gold muffler.
The black muffler is a bit more critical on length in a few aspects. Its not impossible. But might be a challenge.
You are better off letting the gold muffler drop a few rpm, and use the higher-size prop.

Hey Bob,
Thanks for the advise. I decided to get the Phoenix models Strega(P51 mustang). I talked to Still4given back and forth and decided to go with that plane. I ordered it from tower this morning! i think that plane and the Jett 60LX will make a quick little warbird. My next projects going to be a Sundowner with a YS 1.10. I cant wait!

good deal. I know he has had some issues we worked through on his SJ-50 installation .... but seems like the Streaga is moving along nicely now .... not too bad of an airplane.

Hey Justin,
Good to hear you have settled on a plane and engine. You are going to love that combination. Mine seems to be getting faster every flight. Wait till you crank that thing around a pylon. You''ll be amazed how well it tracks and quickly it gets back up to speed.
I did have some problems as Bob noted, but it all started because the two muffler bolts that came with my extension were just a tad too long. They were just long enough to bottom out in the muffler just before the muffler got snug. The muffler kept coming loose and causing the engine to go lean. In the end, the tip of one of the bolts broke off inside the muffler and didn''t leave enough thread for even a shorter bold to stay tight. I''ve got to tell you that Dub stayed with me through all of it and basically rebuilt my engine for free and now it is one of the best running engines I have ever owned. It''s turning 16K slightly rich on the ground with an APC 9x9 and unloading a ton in the air. Everyone who sees it fly comes over to ask what engine I''m running. BTW, I mounted mine inverted and I only had to slightly tilt the engine to have the muffler clear the side without an extension.
Blessings, Terry

Yeah Im glad I decided on this plane. It looks really awesome and seems to perform well by what everbody says. Its good to here that dub took care of you on the engine. I guess it really screams now. I wonder if I should get a thin muffler extension. Like a 1/8 or 1/4 inch?
Thanks

I wouldn''t use an extension on this plane. You only have to tilt the engine ever so slightly to get the muffler to clear. You will already be moving the mounting holes because the muffler won''t work at all in the stock possition, which had the muffler coming out the bottom of the plane.
It is my belief that an extension is a fix for a problem. The engine and muffler were designed as a unit and adding an extension has got to mess with that at least some. Trust me, you won''t need the extension.

.....this is what a my Dago Red looks like with a big 14-8 prop. The huge
spinner is a problem for the smaller props. This is a YS .91FZ supercharged
engine, a nice combo.

You gonna have that Dago at Rabbit in two weeks? I like to check it out.
