Default Ribless delta...LOOK!

I have basicly stolen Rick Haslams idea of the Wild Wizz 40, only about 1" longer, about 1" narrower and about 1/2" thinner airfoil, MAYBE a little more streamline (I said MAYBE).

It's just a 1/4"x1/2" frame with tapered spars and 1/8" liteply cap strips bent over them. The engine mount is 1/4" aircraft plywood and the radio box, center sheeting and hatch is 1/8" balsa, very easy and cheep to build, a lot of this wood came from my scrap box in fact.

This is my 4th "Wizz" including the origional kit I built so I know it will go like a bat out of hell and tough as nails to boot. I have built all of them with a single fin with rudder and they will do some crazy flat spins and snap rolls as well.

I'm off all next week so finishing it up should be a snap! This is the result of less than 1 days work.

When I first saw this construction technique I wasn't sure about it, but now I think it's the only way to go. The cap strips are like bicycle spokes, just one by itself is very flimsey, but put a whole mess of them under a load and you got something. The origional Wizz design has 2-1/16" caps laminated together, this is very light but not quite as strong as the light ply, I kept knocking holes in them.

As far as amesia, it's to easy to build to forget how, all you need is an outline drawn out on a paper and off you go. You could build it one day and fly it the next after you get the hang of it.

Beautifull plane.

Bud Roane disigned and built something like that in the early '80s, flew great in our club pylon races.

Does this get sheeted or just MonoKote?
Do you have some dimensions for this so we could try? Looks like a very cool project.

Blessings, Terry

It is basicly ready to cover, actually it is about 95% covered now and should be completed today.

The span is 34", length (frame only) is about 23", and the tips are 6". I'll post another picture when it's complete.

Progress and a messy work bench go hand and hand.
