Rossi Quickie 40 - Needs a plane
My pal just got a Rossi Quickie 40 and we have been running in the engine. Its amazing! We ran in about 3/4 gallons and with a 9x7 prop we tached almost 19,000 RPM! Don't worry about the so called test stand, its very stable and only used for 40 sized engine ... 
May I ask what sort of prop would be best and what sort of RPM to expect? Can anyone recommend a plane for this? Something not so exotic perhaps, reasonably priced. Thanks!!!

This appears to be the old FAI F3D engine (no longer in production), likes to be propped to reach at least 23000 on the ground with relatively small FAI props. A 9x7 may be way too big. When running that range of 23000 RPM plus, with the pipe relatively short, you'll hear it stage onto the pipe very clearly. Not in the league of the MB40 (or Nelson or Jett) but quite powerful. The range of APC carbon props used for Q40 work quite well for me anyway. 7.4 x 7.5 and thereabouts but these would be with slippery F3D type aircraft. I have flown Q500's with this engine and APC 7.8 x 6 carbon, perhaps this would suit a more draggy aeroplane.

Yes that's the an old (15 years at least) Rossi FAI /F3D 6,5cc pylon racing engine. Suitable props are 7,4x7,5 Carbon props (pylon racing variety) or if that is not possible commercial APC carbon props.
This engine is set up to run on 80/20 fuel (that is 20% Castor oil and no nitro). though 5% nitro will improve things .
The glow plug to use when using the above fuel and prop is Rossi 8! That's the coldest plug available.
9x7 APC is way, way too large.
Aim for a rpm around 25000-27000 with the above fuel/prop and glow plug.

Oh man ... 9x7 @ 19,000 RPM is waaaaaaaay off from what its suppose to be. Thanks a lot guys. I believe that such planes need to have a shut off mechanism, can anyone let me know how its done? I was informed that a simple method is to use an air retract valve. Some assistance is appreciated.

Hi!
What is used in F3D pylon is just a wire with a loop around the fuel line.....the wire is connected to the side rudder servo and when you give full left rudder (after a heat) the fuel line is crimped so that the fuel is shut off.

Jaka ... a loop as in like how you hang someone right? So when you give the input the fuel line is pinched. How does it ensure that the loop does not slip? Any picture perhaps? Thanks for the input. Oh yes ... what plane would you recommend? The owner of this engine is a MVVS fan ... hehehhee ... I seen how hard he pushes the 49 and the 40, they really can last.

MJD ... yeah 9x7 @ 19K is nothing to scoff at. Diamond Dust is a no no ... we fly off a dirt field, it will not last. Guess I need to look into a proper F3D plane. One of my friends were telling me to look for past competition planes, not the latest as they will be cheaper but yet still very fast. Anyone knows where to look at F3D planes? EP I know for F5D etc but not GP F3D.
