Default hotliner help

Hi guys, im having a few problems building my hotliner, i have chosen to use the neu 1509/1y and in order to keep wires to a minimum i shortened the stator wires and so removed the soldered ends, now i cant for the life of me get any new solder onto those massive copper wires, it just beads and drips off, im using a weller solder station at full power 450 degrees, do i need to go hotter? i have never had this problem before but then again i have never tried to solder such heavy gauge wires!
any help would be awesome!!

Default RE: hotliner help

If you are talking about the magnet wire coming out of the motor then it is probably enamel coated. you need to remove the coating before the solder will stick to it. I usually stick the ends of the wire over a flame to burn off the enamel and then lightly sand it.
