Default ssjett.40

have an ssjett40.on a viper 500.turing about 19,960 peak ground rpm.with a standard 8x8 apc.backed off to 18,800 for flight.its fast. but not crap your pants fast.then last year I had a dd with a jett fire .50.and they seem the same speed.seems like once you get over 150.theres a speed wall and you cant go that much faster.I think aerodymanics.are killing my speed on the viper.anyone have any nice cowling pics for the viper?

Cut about 4" off each wing tip and report back.

o-cool:

Cut the wing span on that Viper down to 40". Guarantee it will still fly about the same and be just a little faster landing. Can get away with a 36" wing but it will skid in the turns and be a might much landing. You will still not see 200 but maby 160-170. It takes more horse power to go just a little faster, and the hp needed is expodential. To be effective, think you will have to build a new fuse to streemline that front end. If you must have 200 mph, buy a good Formula bird and a Q-500 Jett or Nelson. Maby also may try the Jett 60LX. The typical Super Sport Jett does not have the HP and rpm needed, but great sport engines. ENJOY

APC 8.5x7 or 8.5x7.25 d1 series prop ...... ditch the 8x8 C-2 prop

And yes..... there is a limit on speed.... 150 from an SS powered Q-500 is about all its going to do.

The 428 engines on upper end airframes push 170-180 mph.
