WHat is the best speed engine in the 90 class
Until recently I was flying my GP phantom with a 91fx and a 13x8 apc prop. The speed was very marginal. I just sold the os91fx and now I want a replacement. What are the guys using for speed on a 91 class airplane. The ones I have heard of are Jett Engineering, Rossi, Webra, other than the regular OS, TT, etc.
I want to buy an engine that will really put life in a 12lbs lead weight phantom. In the future this engine may also sit in a 3d aerobat and I reckon it would perform well there too.
Any advice is appreiciated.

Ragz....
....a twelve pounder.... 
....that's a load....
....I'm thinkin' more like a big block....the OS 1.08 FSR
will put put the ponies, and pull some prop....
The Jett .90 swings an 11-8 prop....The Rossi a bit
more....like an 11-10....an OS .90 FSR might be good'
if you could get your hands on one....

u are right flyboy, but i have a prop size limitation...the 13x8 is also seems like it will touch the grnd on a hard landing. The 1.08fsr will surely run a larger maybe longer prop....i am looking at a rossi/jett class engine...let me look for one. Any idea how much they cost?

You've got a problem there Ragz: If you want real speed you're gonna need an engine that revs... in the .90 class that brings you to the ducted fan engines really fast...
You could also modify a stock .90 like the Rossi, but that's easier said than done, so you're better off buying an engine that is already tuned (meaning: a DF engine) in my opinion.
On the other hand, if you want an engine for a 3D type plane, you need something that is reliable, runs cool and has loads of bottom end power... exactly the things you won't find in a high revving engine...
So in my humble opinion you're going to have to make a choice between one of the two engine types, or just think long and hard, dig out the credit card and buy both engines
My choice would be the latter...

Having thought it over....
....you wanted the motor to fill two roles....

....There are many reasons I say this....It is only my
opinion....you will get others....
The Jett .90 is probably the Premere .90 made today....
but only because the others are out of production....
the small prop recommendation (11-8), and the rpm
will not lend itself towards the dual-purpose role....
The Rossi .90 is certainly the "Brute" of the lot....
when it comes to HP.....but they run a HUGE pipe,
to get everything out of it....they have the "in flight
mixture control"....which is good....but they are hard
to come by....will not lend themselves to the double
duty....and you can forget about parts....
The OS .90 fan-motor is a real sweety....but the dual
role thing is out the window again....the mounting thing
comes into play....in that being a strict rear pipe motor,
inverted mounting is out....because of the nose-wheel.
I don't know if a side-mount would work....if the pipe
would clear the wing.... :stupid:
The 1.08 OS FSR....heavy....brutal....too much for most
to deal with....
My final answer is....the OS .90 FSR....side mounted, of
course.....has the regular muffler....can use a 12" prop.
Dual purpose....YEAH BABY....!!!

Good idea....
....3D and propjets don't mix too well....
Take yer' pick....the Jett .90 is a sure bet....small pipe,
small prop, and a real cranker....or the Rossi .
I'm gonna get a new Magnum .91 XLS muffler (high
volume) and modify it to fit the Rossi....just fer' kicks
and see what it will do....

Try a 12x12 prop on the 91FX before you toss it. I set up the same plane for a local guy with that engine. The engine has tons of torque and does not like to rev. The plane itself has tons of drag and wont be extreme no matter what you do, short of a redesign. With the higher pitched props you will need a longer takeoff roll and you will need to fly it like a jet to keep from losing speed in the turns.
