Got my Diamond Dust Framed up and covered

RE: Got my Diamond Dust Framed up and covered
Alls well that ends well Gofastz.... These planes have motors that are high in vibration. A good BB servo is good insurance on throttle. You can get away with a mini but make it a BB servo.
The noise at full speed is the covering, many people hear it and think it's flutter. I always knew I was having a good light on my DD by the covering noise.
I look forward to more flight reports.

Congrats on your fights Gofastz
That snare drum sound is common and it’s a sign that your realy cook’in and well trimmed when strait and level. Not to be confused with the whoosh sound in a hard turn! Do check the prop balance and that the servo linkage is tight.
Even good throttle servos can go away from engine vibration. Make sure the servo is not hard stopped at wide open throttle. Don’t over tighten the mounting bushings and use plastic clevises on the ends of the throttle push rod, note the old DD description: http://www.diamonddustrc.com/glow_mo...nd_Dust_cw.htm
I go a few steps further, I use a plastic “Golden Rod†pushrod on the throttle servo only and I thin the Nylon servo arm to a “flexor†with a nice radius near the hub. It should be made plenty strong enough to over come friction. I have used these for years and never had one break or loose that servo. If you must use a wire push rod and there’s room inside the plane, you could form a loop or coil in the wire, no kinks or it will break there.

One thing that can cause flutter on a Dust is if one was to overly thin the elevons thinner than the wing’s trailing edge. The aileron stock that comes with the kit shouldn’t be thinned, just shaped per instructions.

RE: Got my Diamond Dust Framed up and covered
I got a backup done. My planes seem to last longer when I have a backup...
Only change from the first one I built is the tank area. I got a Jett Bubbleless tank and the cut out is sized for it.

Sleek, very sleek.
Look foward to flight report Evan

Ready to fly. It took some lead to balance, maybe time to get a bigger, heavier, faster, motor?
18oz, 2sqft, Mega 16/15/2, 4.1x4.1, 1600mA 25C 3S LiPo, has right at 1:1 power to weight holding it vertically.
Gofastz has yours flown?

It flew, almost boring. Easy launch, great flight, perfect landing. A little trim and had to tone the low rates down a bit. I would gues I'm in the 120 range maybe a tad more.

Duh, bigger motor of course!!!
I have to wait until after Christmas so the wife doesn't go "boom" and I'll look for a 16/25/2 size motor but more kV. Since I put 1 1/2oz of lead in the nose I might as well add motor....

RE: Got my Diamond Dust Framed up and covered
I put in a 3600kV Electrifly 28-45. I took out 1oz of the 1.5oz of lead I had with the 16/15/2. It flys a little nose heavy so the other 0.5oz comes out tonight. With the lower kV I am now running a 4.75x4.75. This setup run just barely warm and is just slightly slower than the 16/15/2 and 4.1x4.1 setup. The 4.75x4.75 sure torques a lot more than the 4.1x4.1 though.
Got 2 flights in today, this is going to be a nice plane...

RE: Got my Diamond Dust Framed up and covered
Evan, it looks great! I just came across this thread and as it is just past midnight I will keep it short! It is great to see some one else building Electric Dusts! I have built 5 different sizes so far, 34.5", 28.5", 24", 22" and 18" My fastest does (best guess) 160mph. 4S1P 2500's into a Neu 1110/1.5Y. 950 watts and 27.5 oz RTF. I will try to get some pictues uploaded this weekend. My 18" Dust Light is 14 oz RTF and is running on 2S1P. It seems to be doing 85-90. They all have a great roll rate. Guys at the field call them "flying drill bits".
Congrats again on your beautiful plane Evan!
