Cool keep the weights comeing...
OK here is the base coat Ultracote Corsair Blue ... man is this Blue ever hard to work with .... not in putting on but It will show just about ever nick or bump of the hot iron ...trying to seal as many edges as I can then use the hot air gun ( blow dryer )
...still have some more blue to put on then some trim black before I move on to the yellow Fin's ... should look cool ... couple other markings to go on as well but will see how they look before I take a pic of them ... have a good weekend.
cheers

RE: Juno RC F-18 Build and Mods
Well I have the rim around the canopy painted ..but I am having a heck of a time finding a pilot head .....even went to the dollar store.
I am now making some inside rims for the tail cones that need to be painted as well ... I figure if I make some inside rims then I can take the tail cones off to put weight in if need.
Will be doing the yellow cut outs for the fins this weekend.
cheers

Hi, Peter. Check out this link for a pilot [link=http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Petes-Pilots]Pete's Pilots[/link]. I'm using the 1/12 scale Jet Pilot on my F/A-18. You can see it on my thread in the scratch built section.

RE: Juno RC F-18 Build and Mods
Thanks for the link Jim ...but by the time I order and shipped it would cost half a kit ....so ... for now the F-18 will be unmanned.
Bob! good to see you are still in the back ground [sm=thumbs_up.gif][sm=thumbs_up.gif]... hope you are having some luck with your earlier post.
The bottom is almost finished ... need to seal the Ailerons from the bottom and put some fake Black intakes on.
Working with the Fins and more work to do on that to clean up the look... canopy is glued and taped into place as you can see ....some other markings to be put on yet and the tail cones to be painted and put on.
Not to much to do now before I get to the lateral and weight and balance.. ..,,
cheers

As usual, looks fantastic Pete! The yellow will stand out nicely on those hazy Yukon afternoons! Looking forward to seeing it in person, keep up the good work......

Lateral balance done .. 1 ounce to get it level ..which is about right .... seems to take from 3/4 to 1 oz on most... more work to do before I can do the c/g and total weight.

Working on the c/g ... I have 2 oz inside each cone and 1/2 oz on top each with a movable 1/4 oz to get it to level ...sooo looks like 5 1/4" oz to balance ..not bad at all .. would have been less if I had not cut 3" off the tail end ..... I may still move the battery into one cone and drop some of the lead....I will work on it this afternoon.
cheers

RE: Juno RC F-18 Build and Mods
Working on the Fleet ... have to cycle all the batteries and have the 55 out of the F-18 and in the test stand for the break in run.... maybe this weekend.
I get the above done and then I can get the F-18 outside for better pictures in the sun next weekend ( if its out []. )
Should be fast like the F-16 Don.... it will be interesting to compare it to the F-16 about the same size and weight.
You want to buy it Pete?
Cheers

RE: Juno RC F-18 Build and Mods
Now that the build is almost done and the fun part about to start, I just wanted to post some pics of the items I used on this build that I think will help out on the test flights.
1) This TruTurn Spinner is awesome ..not only is it black iodizes ( comes in other colors as well ) but the cut out for the prop is what they call "wide cut" this will allow me a wide range of props that I can use with out hacking the opening to make it larger.
2) Next is the OS 55AX with a Jett Red Muffler .. I used this setup on the F-16 and found it to be a great little power house. I am getting 14,500 on the ground with a MAS 11x7 Series's 2 ( Dark Gray prop) 10% Fuel.
3) Center of the fuse I have the Spring Air 101HD mains with the Air valve switch ...this gear set has been able to stand up to the hard landings I have done in the past [sm=red_smile.gif] ...and ... probably make a few more yet ... Love the new air switch it now comes with ... it is a lot easier to mount then the old PLUS the switch arm is a lot easier to setup for control throw.
You can also see the Smart - Fly PowerExpander under the Hitec Receiver ..this 1.8oz safety unit ( well this is what I think of it as IMO and is well worth the extra weight ) helps filter out signals in and out of the unit .... I also love the idea of the power bar so I am able to connect up to three servos on one channel which then offers long servo lead line matching this way I do not have to use a Y cable. This unit has a ton of features to long to list so you may want to drop by there Web site and have a look.
Well that is about it until the snow goes off the strip ( in about three weeks from now ) so we can get to the test flights.
Cheers for now

RE: Juno RC F-18 Build and Mods
You have that right .... Crap as I look out the back door at this time it is snowing.. [sm=crying.gif] ....I still have to cover in the wheel wells to fuel proof them, remount the engine and go over each nut and bolt one more time.
I would say that spring is running on time up this way .... seems that we can start flying from the strip by the 2nd weekend in May if not sooner.
Don ? how is the snow over your way? must be about the same.
Cheers

It's melting quick. We just have a trace on the ground.
I was sitting here the other night and I saw a car drive by with a 1/4 scale Extra on the roof. That guy must fly around here someplace. I'm going to have to search him out...LOL!!!
Warm weather is coming Pete, get it ready to go!

RE: Juno RC F-18 Build and Mods
Break-in is done on the OS 55AX .... well for now .. I had time today to run two 16oz tanks as Per the manual. I used a 10x6 APC prop and the Stock muffler... I now have the Jett muffler and a 11x7 MAS Series 2 scimitar ready to rip on it ..... I also have a new Glow Bee Tach to get some numbers from both the F-16 and 18.
Snow is going fast today ..hope it keeps it up this week.
Cheers
