Default Shrike 40 CG Location?

My Shrike 40 ARF manual gives a 5-7/8" CG measurement behind the leading edge measured at the fuselage. Is this the same as the KIT version? I'm using an OS 46 FX with an Ultrathrust muffler on mine and it looks like I'll need to add significant weight to the tail [:@] even with a 1500 mah battery pack pushed aft as far as it will go. I'm hoping the ARF manual number is bogus.

Default RE: Shrike 40 CG Location?

I balanced mine exactly where the book said, and it took a bunch of lead in the tail with a ball bearing 46 engine up front. I flew and handled really well using that CG, but it was way too heavy and snapped out during approach and augered in.

I think the way to go on that bird is to find a really light engine for it. The nose is just too long and it makes balancing really tough. The only Shrike I ever had that flew well and had no bad habits was powered by a 40LA.

Yes. I extended the hatch on my kit so I could put the batt. in the tail.
