So anyway.

The Jett SJ60LX does fit in the Magnum R. Right now with a 9x8 apc TS is 147mph.
I ran a 8.8 x 8.75 once. Top speed was alot faster but for now I like the way it pulls out of your hand and flies off .

This is the Magnum V1 with a 60lx. It is no longer a viable plane.









The wing pin came loose, the wing dropped off and the yellow missle gained speed as it headed into the woods.
I did find the remains. It had hit a tree dead center about 30 feet up. I sent what was left of the engine back to Dub Jett. He fixed it right up and it is flying in my second V1.

I found as I moved away from the 9" sport props, the static pull and climb out from the hand launch suffered a bit, predictably, but top speed improved. I'm running an 8.8-8.75 right now, clipped to 8-1/8", header trimmed about 5/8". Launches go pretty smoothly (with a trimmed model) when my buddy gives it a gonzo hand launch up about 25-30 degrees from horizontal and banked a bit to the right. Then I stay off the darn sticks as long as possible as it arcs over, rolls slightly left and picks up speed.Once it's had a chance to pick up speed I pull out smoothly. Start horsing it around after the hand launch and you might have some trouble (bonk!). I also launch on middle rates not low, but I do final on high rate for the flare - high rate has more elevator (wayyyyy too much for HS flight) and less expo. Once flying vertical is limited only by your eyesight or cloud height!

The 60LX ought to be good for 160-165mph I'd guess..?

One thing is for sure, the Magnum flyers who chime in here love them. After clocking .45-.50 size planes with 9x8 props and then clocking with "speed" props, I've never seen a big enough improvement in speed over the 9x8 to justify the white knuckle launches. I've never owned a Magnum, though.

If you are flying the West .50V1, the 9-8 loads it up too much and your top speed suffers - it likes 20k+ for best performance. That's the kicker.

Was flying throttled down for an approach saw that I was in the tree line so gave it gas and up elevator I mean down
I mean up well I thought it was up?????LOL Total loss on the plane. Jett 60LX runs perfect and the servos and receiver are fine.
I HAD it ballanced so Perfect the thing glided right on in every time.
The thing that really kills me is that I had a N.I.B. magnum and sold it here on rcu[sm=cry_smile.gif]
I didn't think I would need it. what was I thinking.

i have had two.

The first one lost the elevator pushrod at full throttle on the 3rd flight. It was a full throttle low pass over the run way. I think the west 50 stopped another 200 ft down the runway. The CG was moved back as suggested in other threads. The plane glided in very gently on the first few flight.

the second one was lost on the 2nd flight. It went straight in. Landed in some soft ground though..... it was about 16 inches in the ground. It did not even break the prop or spinner??? stranger things have happened!

1st magnum lasted over 100 flights. My current magnum has over 180 flights.(im trying to get weston jacket if i reach 500 flights)

The first crash was caused by worn out battery socket in transmiter. The magnum at full bore came down spectactualy on the backside of a motor cycle dirt jump in the adacent field. No motorcycle was hit, otherwise it would have been a mid air...!!

Early props 8x10 caused problem launching.
My 2nd and current model when new, I carried out the following mods.
1 Beef up captive nut housing with more ply. Beef up where wing dowles insert in fusalage.
2 change wing dowles for nylon bolts with head cut off.
3 cut fusalage bottom for access and glass side walls
4 Tuff coat all film edges
5 install 10 oz tank
6 fllorescent film under wing

Many Broken props.!!! But if you set prop to horizontal against compression then this helps ALOT

Many glow plugs BLOWN..!!!

Many gallons of fuel. Have used prosynth 10 and 15 %

All landings are dead stick from empty tank.(might explain many blown plugs..)

All flights at full throttle. High dives, U shape most of the time.

My first and now only MagnumR is still going strong, and I really do not count, but figure it has 30 flights or so. This year sucked for flying as it was windy nearly all flying season. Not that the Magnum or I care, but nobody else comes out to play airplanes.

Broke 3-4 props and am getting much better at not breaking them.

No crashes, although I very nearly hit myself on a low pass. Early flight, flying my normal hack around high speed circuits, I had not yet developed an appreciation for the closing speed after a dive.. now I do. [sm=52_52.gif]

On one landing, it slid nicely for 15-20 feet then something unseen grabbed it and cartwheeled it a bit. Broke the front wing mount, which was a good opportunity to notice how weak it really was.. not good. A quick repair and it was back flying the day after.

I'm a proponent of moving the CG back. I drew the planform out once full scale, then plotted out the MAC and NP. According to that little workup a "normal" CG location by our typical standards is about 195mm back from the LE! I have never gone that far, but I hear tell that some folks in Europe move it wayyy back like that. Considering I snapped it once during a fast glide before I got elevator throws and feel worked out, I wasn't planning to go too radical. But with reduced throws and expo it's probably fine. Go ahead, you try it..

Last we saw it was screaming full blast towards Concord NC if anyone wants to look for it. Amazingly it was trimmed perfectly, too bad the radio decided to have an issue. It did pass range check prior to the flight...

The 145mph touch and go did not break the prop amazingly, the prop had some stress marks on it though....
