Default Sundowner 50 with OS.91FX tune

I made some modification to my Sundowner to be able to stand the 91FX with a Ultratrus muffler...

Nice job.

Should be a screamer. I went the "easy way" and shoe horned a Jett 60 in mine.

Thanks for comments

I was not afraid to fit it there, I was afraid of the amount of work! But finally it was ok... I took some time to evaluate the changes before cutting everything!!! But it was easy mods.

The airplane is now finish, the CG was almost right one. I put the battery in front of wing tube. Final ready to fly weight is 6lbs 13oz.

By changing the height of landing gear by 1.5", my ground clearance is much lower. I was limited to a 10" prop. I change the main wheel for 3" and curve the tail wheel as much as I can to lower the tail. Now the ground clearance is 6.5" so a 12" prop is the bigger a can go, but the airplane will be green after takeoff!

On this setup I will try APC 11X10 and 11.5X9. I will post the final pics this weekend, some cleaning and touch paint to do!

Oupsss!!! I forgot to finish what I started!

Sorry guys.
(Sorry for my English too!)
I finally finish this project by April. I flew it many times this summer. It comes out at ± 7.5 lbs ready to fly.
My preferred prop for this setup was 12x8 or 11x10. 12x8 gives me more authority; better acceleration, vertical etc… 11x10 give me a nicer sound! Not really faster when flying straight. But faster in dive. The best pass on radar was 122mph, I done better with the 11x10, a big vertical dive and gently put it parallel just before the radar (145 mph) but it was cheating!
It was at the end of season, when I was not afraid by destroying the plane due to overloading the stab…. At this speed when you pull the elevator you can hear the plane crying!! (start to have flutter)
It was a little tricky to take off, a very bad tendency to turn left, engine/prop torque. Many of my first take off was very ugly. Instead of putting full throttle at take off, I managed to gently accelerate it until the tail start to lift, when this step is done pull the elevator slowly and gradually pass to full throttle…
Landing was endless! It glides forever and need lots of practice to make it land on a 125 feet field.
My general impression of that plane; fast, precise and beautiful to look at.
The OS.91FX on tune perform very wheel. For sure it’s a fast plane, but I was expecting more of it. The sound, torque and power of this setup worth the time to do the mod.
On ground, just playing with the throttle stick from the pit to the take off zone captivated everybody attention…

(I sold the plane ready to fly at another club member last October, he flew it only 3 times before a complete destroy)…

Some pictures...

I seal all surface with ultracote and add these carbon rod to stiffed the elevator. Works great and fix my high speed flutter problem (only when i was pulling the elevator out of a dive at full speed).

Awesome, thank you for the update!
I just picked one of these ARF up at Hobbytown for only 100bucks, and I'm about to build a brushless version.
I have a .50-.60 size 500kv motor on 6s, and need the correct prop.. I'm thinking of a 14x7 for general sport flying and then a 12x10-14 for some speed passes
