RE: 287mph on a Q500!!!!!
I could probably DS an all composite quickie to 287mph on the right day. Outside of a turbine or rocket ontop the wing saddle. Not gonna happen....

I've seen consistent low to mid 170's on the flat and level. 180 could be hit with a dive or wind, that extra 10%+ in speed is going to take a bit to overcome.
Heres a link to Q500 kits.

Well, there used to be a quickie advertised to have been radared at 208 mph, V-Vector or something like that. While is sounds like it was complete BS, but the story goes that they put a F1 engine on it and got the radar reading in a vertical dive to make the claim. The physics and math does make a pretty good case for the 208 figure to be factual.
An electric powered quickie might reach 200 in level flight if your setup has 3.4 kW at the motor.
To reach 287 (as if it would hold together), in level flight would take about 10 kW at the motor.

Because I haven't seen a ridiculous speed claim post in a while so thought I'd start something that would get people to go "YEAH RIGHT" hahaha, just having a little fun, winter blah's are deeply set in.

287 mph !!!!! wow that would be very impressive .
Well , I just finished my modified Shrike ( airfoil reduced ) and she was able to reach 221 MPH after a dive nothing close to 287 but it is exciting anyway .
This pic shows the stock , thick and boring airfoil AND the new one OOOhhhh yeeaaaaaa [8D]

if your a noob dont buy a Q-500. I'm an experienced flier and lost sight of mine for 3 to 5 seconds and it hit the ground at around 120 mph only 6 feet from me!
damn cataracts and white uyltra cote with 4 one inch wide red strips on bottom only are to blame.

RE: 287mph on a Q500!!!!!
We took a Q40 built-up wing Nemesis (Rich Tossi kit) with a Nelson Q40 engine to 228 in a dive back in the late 1990's. BUT... We had to add 1.5lbs of lead ballast to make the plane heavier and ran a 7.5 x 8.5" pitch hand carved race prop .
Then we had to take off with the airplane very very rich so the motor would unload as we made the dive.
The first few dives with a stock race setup only got us just over 190. Not too much differernt than straight and level speed.. so remember that the extra weight, a really rich needle, and a higher pitch prop were needed.
We tried this to find out how fast a Q40 could go in a dive.

Calm down a bit!
This is beginning sound like the rest of the trash talk on this "Extreme Speed Prop Plane (Talk)" forum. and we all know what those claims are.
