Default OT - but worth noting

Hey folks....
Sorry for being a bit scarce....

I got laid off from my "primary" job last week.
Yep- I am a statistic.

But hopefully I will keep up on here while hunting down a new career.
Something about this site at least keeps me sain

Anyone interested, look me up on linkedin.com - always helps to have contacts.

Bob

Its happening everywhere, your not alone. I made it through a layoff at work in early January only to be told 2 weeks later that the entire plant is shutting down. So come April I will be out of work after working there for over 13 years as an engineer.

But by April it should start getting nice out, I can go flying all summer.

I just tell everyone I am retiring 25 years sooner than I planned. If we are lucky, we won't have to stay retired long.

If you ever pass through north of Tampa, stop by. I'm sure I could take a lesson or two in pipe length adjustment. It always seemed a bit like black magic. Seriously, good luck!

Hang in there Bob, there's a better one in the future....."Think out of the box."

My son lost his job as a trucker with Swift Trucking right before X mas ( so they didn't have to pay bonus too) [sm=48_48.gif].
He may go in the service since there's no work to be found. First time he needs unemployment $$ and it may not be there long when the government is broke

Today they cut the overtime plant wide at my work[]

All new toys on hold!

I've got lots of free time now, too. Try to enjoy it. Look at all the money you save by not going to work! Plant a vegetable garden, bring in firewood, sell off the junk in the attic, get caught up on all the old RC related repairs and projects. Clean the chimney and pressure wash the roof, change the oil in the rearend of the 200,000 mile beater, on and on, it never ends.
It's also a great time to concentrate on those New Years resolutions instead of shrugging them off because of the pressures of the Rat Race.

Not to worry, "We Are All Socialists Now". So that means your kids can expect to reach 30 before they have a job in the field they studied for (just like some German engineers I talked to 10 years ago). With SCHIP, their health needs are taken care off, don't know what that will mean to their feeling of self-worth. A lot of people are losing jobs or going under employeed (4 day work weeks).

I was an engineer too once upon a time, but no longer. Now I work on the family farm. All will be fine until it too goes to the common good. So work less, and demand your share, that's what was elected.

These will be the good ole days, I fear.

Hmmm, I hear that our "Nintendo Generation" isn't filling the demand for engineers.....it's too much like real work and stuff.

Here in Detroit Compuware laid off 250 people an then hired Kwalme Kilpatric as soon as he got out of JAIL.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

For me it is week 9 of being laid off. I may have to sell some JETT ENGINES SOON.

You nailed that one square on the head sir! I'm 37 and a car nut and when I take the GTO out I inevitably run into the ricer crowd and it is pathetic. Lazy little punks describes about 98% of them.
All they seem to care about is what they can get in exchange for doing as little as possible.

Sick, sick, sick. The parents need to be smacked IMO.

Hi Bob,

That's tuff. I am on my 4th day without work and am beginning to worry. I can't imagine not having my job at all anymore.
You are in our prayers.

Blessings, Terry

This is sad. I am sorry to hear about you, and all you other guys getting laid off your jobs. []

Hopefully, the economy will improve soon and people will be able to have steady work again.

thanks for the support guys...

Yep, lots of this going around. Sorry to hear yours came to pass Dave.

Seriously, if you never heard of linkedin.com ..... go look. Its facebook for the business world.

Speaking of selling off stuff...... I might do that myself. I have a few retired black q500 engines that could use a little tlc and a good home.

As for spare time ..... that is what my wife thinks. She even suggested taking my little guy out of daycare so I could watch him. Perhaps eventually... but not right now. When it comes down to it, finding a new career path is pretty much a full-time job. Putting together a self-marketing strategy and plan of attack takes quite a bit of effort. I have spent 5 hrs today alone putting together some basics and gathering some very preliminary information. It took me 1 hr on hold with ohio unemployment just to have my "pin number" reset and emailed to me (had to plug in the land-line phone for that..... no need to burn the minutes on that)

The company I worked for had a large early retirement program last fall, and suplimented that with a round of layoffs by November. About a 10% staff reduction. I guess that was not enough as the company went into FY 2nd qtr. This round came as a surprise to all of us involved.

Seems like the job to have right now is one where you help out unemployeed people

Bob
