Yesterday, I got to watch the second of the first two flights
of my friends Patriot using Rocket Assisted Takeoff!!!
He was using a "D" rocket motor stuck in the tailcone.
Now he's planning on using a larger rocket motor!!
I'll try to get him to post some pics.

That's it? That's all the patriots? Well, I just got word from a friend
who has a complete set of plans. So I'm planning on cutting four of
everything and scratch-building at least two at one time. Unless the
F.A.A. says I can't.

I'm looking to re-power mine and have the same questions. I'm considering the Jett's .46/.50's, the O.S. 55ax,
and even the evolution .60nx. I want to be able to use my current tune-pipe system and ring every inch of
power out of it. I also like your very remote needle valve, as my apc 10-8 prop recently removed a large
chunk of thetip ofmy left index finger as I was removing the fuel line to clear out excess fuel(I WAS using
needle nose plier's). So I really like that feature.

What Jett does is list a prop and rpm you'll get with it. I wish all engine mfgs would do this and put an end to all the HP hype.

WELL I AM FLYING MINE WITH TH 55AX AND ITS NOT AS FAST AS I EXPECTED.I AM IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING PROPS TO SEE IF I CAN GET IT ANY FASTER. THATS WHY I WAS WONDERING IF THE JETT ENGINES ARE REALLY ANY BETTER OR MAYBE IF I ADD THE JETT EXHAUST MUFFLER TO THE 55AX IT WILL IMPROVE?????

I don't have personal experience with 55AX but I believe it was designed to have more torque. Seems like an OS trend to make them quieter. If you want an alternative to Jett look at OS 40-46VF, 46 SF, Rossi 45, 46 or 53, YS 45 to name a few.

I was trying to a listing I saw on ebay recently. It was listed twice and had no bids. It was a YS 45 rear exhaust with a tuned pipe. Starting bid was $160. I forget if it was new but that was a reasonable price I thought.

Don't forget the Webra 50 or 55. Absolute screamers, while sipping only 10% fuel. Lightest in the class too.

only thing that is sad about Webra is they have closed the doors...........

the Jett 50 in the Patriout i have pulls straight up with a 9x7, and accelerates while doing so.

Dub Jett's engines are the best, the quality and performance is second to none, I'm speaking from experience, I've used both OS engines and Jetts, Os engines seem to be good for torque, as said in another post, but for speed planes, prop jets and such, go for the Jett engines, they are worth every penny, and the customer service from Dub is also second to none, except when he goes on holidays, but i guess he's allowed to do that once in a while. LOL
My first experience with a Jett was with my patriot XL...I had originally an OS 91fx with full pipe on it, and wasn't satisfied at all, so I bought a Jett 90L, and WOW, what a difference and the sound is incredible when it goes by on a low speed pass.
I have since bought a 60LX and am also extremely happy with it in my Juno F-20, now the 60LX is now a 56LX with the same performance, need I say more, I'm sure others will chime in on the subject of Jett engines.
Buy the Jett, you wont be disappointed, don't let the price bother you.

Yes, I know that about Webra. Still, there are plenty of good used ones on the for sale sites and NIB ones to be bought that people never used. I was just looking at Quickturns list, and it should definitely be listed with the ones he had.

I've heard a lot of good things about Webra too. I just don't know enough about them to say anything.

How about a Weston 50 that was used in the Magnum?

If money is not a concern, a Jett would be the way to go.

But if you're looking to save some bucks, there are plenty of good second hand, new and used options out there.

oh i agree with you on Webra, i just like to use stuff i can get parts for later down the line.
i love Webra engines ever since the Blackhead 60's came out back when i was a kid.....there was no muffler rule back then, and man they were loud, but had the punch of a bull. well built too, and sad to know they have thrown in the towel.
China supporters are killing this hobby in their own way.

if it gets down to my only speed engine choice being "made in China" then i will permanently close the door on this area of modeling.
