Default Swap Meet Find

To most people, this would be make a fine paper weight, but at the price I paid, it was well worth it to me.

RIRE SuperTigre X-40 F1 motor, brand new in the box with straight pipe, a couple extra pipe adaptors, instructions, warranty, color decal, and safety warnings.

Neat motor, now I need to decide what to do with it, or sell it

Fun! I found a gently-used Jett SJ .46 for sale, gently used, at a swap meet for $50 a few weeks ago. Blown away, scooped it up, it runs like smoke

It's awesome to find great deals in unexpected places!

Dave, I'd run it on a Diamond Dust or maybe even an Outlaw.

Since a fleaBag vendor sent me two headers instead of one when I goofed their clumsy online ordering setup, and refused to acknowledge my request to return one.. [:'(]..

I have two MACS headers for ST X40/45 RE engines. I need one. Not ideal for an open engine delta design, they have a bit of rise - 1" I think, have to dig em out and check. I have an ST-X45 pattern engine, same layout.

If you find yourself in need or want of one, I'd love to peddle it off. Or get another motor that they fit.

I won't be running this motor, does not make sense to me, since they were set up to run on such high nitro and the performance won't be any better than the stable of Nelsons. Its in such perfect condition it will make a better collectors piece for someone else. I took Crazy4Flights advise above and will let it go to someone that will collect it. Or do whatever they want with it I guess.

The so called high nitro set up is most likely a stack of shims.

Yeah, most likely, but I'm not going to tinker with this when an off the shelf motor I already own will be substantially faster. It fits someone collection better, but if someone wanted to run it, have at it, just bring your ear plugs as it is completely unmuffled.

That's the way I ran my $65 K&B 6.5 F1 engine, just an open header. I use ear plugs and ear muffs together, then scramble after the launch to rip that stuff away from my head so I can hear the plane in the air.
For all the guys who are always showing up here looking for the most bang for the buck, the F1 engines that are auctioned off will power a small delta nicely.
The 20-22,000+ rpm just adds something that none of those 15-18,000 rpm "sport combos" can touch.

Well, I paid $40 for it, I assume it will go for a bit more than that.

I think it should be polished and put on display in a nice cherry wood and glass cabinet.

They don't run all that well stock. Change the head, piston, sleeve, bearings, exhaust adapter, modify the rotor, and cut down the mini-pipe and you have one ready to run.

In full race trim, they should turn an 8 1/4 x 7 1/2 prop around 22,500. In a clean airplane, they unload to above 27K. That is the big advantage of high nitro and no tuned pipe. Put the airplane in a slight dive and they will reach around 30K.

Changing from 65% to 15% will drop around 1000 rpm. Stock over race setup another 1500 or so.
