RE: 2nd Annual Carolina Speed Rally
My F3D-30 didn't get done either, it'll just be the Jett .50 / Terminator (Q500) combo, and the Norvel .061 / 1/2A Shrike combo for me. CU guys tomorrow morning!

I am wore slap out ladies. We had a typical beutiful Carolina summer day with temps in the mid 90s and very light winds till the afternoon...when all the speed runs were done. I don't have all the times put togeather in a neat way to share just yet but I will let you know the Evan was the speed king of the day with an electric. Richard Barile (came from NY) did a nice job in the mid 150s and I was my usual self in the 140s and 150s. I think I had something for Evan but lost it somewhere in the woods.

Did you find it Vic? Or the wings?
Thanks again for a great event. My only complaint was the temperatures. The college's sign at the bottom of the road said 99 degrees and it felt it.
As usual when you are sure everything is 100% ready to go gremlins pop up as many of us saw. But we all had fun, some money was raised, and I at least went home with no structural damage... a very good day.
Thanks to you and the club!
Oh and you never saw me....

So far I've only recovered one half of the wing. We looked for about 2 hours and came up with nothing.
I'll go back out there with pants on and a machete to look in some of the hard to reach spots.
Here are a few pics, I'm sure there will be more.[8D]

Wow! You guys had quite a turn out!
Vic, are those your planes piled up by the pickup truck? I like that one on the far right, I don't think a plane can look much more slick than that one.
So does Evan get the "Long Distance Award" too?
Did any 1/2Aers get clocked?

RE: 2nd Annual Carolina Speed Rally
I flew my 1/2A Shrike, which hadn't been flown in over a year, and had put a new 2.4Ghz receiver in it. The trims were WAY off, and the old gummed-up Norvel .061 was not running too well; it ended up in the dirt after launch, three times in row, before finally logging a successful flight. I also got the dubious "honor" of being awarded the "Slowest Speed of Someone Trying to Fly Fast", only 49 mph into the wind, without the benefit of a diving entry for the pass past the radar gun. The Norvel started to gradually lean out and pick up some rpm's after running down the fuel level, and got to 87 mph, heading downwind out of a dive. Oh well, it wasn't an impressive achievement, but I did win a Screamin' Demon delta kit from MikesRC for it!

Did you read the part thay says if you don't top 100 on the first flight you have to return it? [8D]
You'll need more than an .061 if you want to crack 49mph for more than for a couple of seconds after the hand launch.

No worries on breaking 100 mph with the Screamin' Demon, I've got plenty of .40-.50 engines and suitable exhaust systems in the stable, just waiting for a suitable airframe.

RE: 2nd Annual Carolina Speed Rally
The most likely candidate for the SD is an MVVS .40 SHO Q500 motor; not legal for 424, not strong enough for 428, but a darn nice motor nonetheless, easily more powerful than any of my side-exhaust .46's. I seem to remember 17,300 rpm on the ground, with an APC 9x7, and serious unloading in the air. I flew my Predator II with it for a while, and it got up to around 140 mph (WaveOScope measured), but I had to switch to the TT .40 for 424 racing. That airframe is long gone now.

We did have our share of "issues" but I also did take the Twin Outlaw "Banditos" out for show and tell. Both motors started first flip and ran flawlessly. Did not fly it as it has to be darn near perfect conditions for me to even think about it.

The Twin is an awsome plane to see in person for sure.
Electric Delta is a fast dude for sure and normally that Shrike is pretty impressive, just an off day.
CP, the red and white plane is a Kangke F3D. I was planning to put a Nelson SS 424 in there but couldn't locate a backplate in time so I left the TT.46 in there and got a respectable 156 with it.
The Nelson ended up on an old Predator I had retired from 424 due to age. As the wing folded before it came by for a run I thought of your old quote about building light and folding one. Mike, Evan, Two digit Terry, Seth, Don, and my son spent a long hot afternoon trudging the presumed target area but have not found the fuse yet. I only have one wing panel so far. Seth said he would do some arial recon with his camera plane for me. I really want the Nelson back.

The archeologists may need to DIG very DEEP to find those particular engines. Vic's Predator went in, minus the drag-inducing wings, the Nelson may have pulled the fuselage completely into the ground behind it... If an orphaned V-Tail is found, at least we'll know where to start digging...
