Default News Item - MikesRC and Screamin' Demon change hands

Fellow Revver Brothers and everyone else who hangs out here:

Many of you here are familiar with RCU friend Mike Connor, his company MikesRC and the Screamin’ Demon delta. Today’s news is that MikesRC has changed hands, and will now be known to you as – MikesRC. You know me here as MJD, and my first name is Mike - I now own the Screamin’ Demon and the MikesRC domain. Since Mike and I share first names, nothing on the surface changes, and all the online contact information stays the same.

My priority is to get the Screamin’ Demon back in production and available to you in time for this summer. It’s a great aircraft, and I will work hard to ensure quality control and supply is maintained. I hope you will bear with my mistakes and wish me luck.

Questions please..

Q: When can I order a Screamin’ Demon?

A: I have targeted June 1 as the release date. I feel this is realistic as the aircraft itself is well-proven with almost 50 of them being built or flying already. It is a relatively easy model to kit; I don’t see any snags yet. Laser cutting of the first parts should be finished in the next couple of days. Other bits are on their way. I will track all the inquiries that I receive through the website, and mail out any worthwhile news as it becomes available.

Q: How much will it cost to ship from Canada? Isn’t that a long way?

A: Too far, too expensive to handle orders that way. I have established a warehouse near Ocala, Florida to handle all US orders. We plan to ship daily, and you’ll have options between USPS and courier. This is a shipping point only that operates transparently in the background. All communications come to me through the website and by e-mail. Canadian and international shipments will be handled here.

Q: So far so good. What other things do you have planned?

A: My plan is first to establish the business and get everything running smoothly with the Screamin’ Demon. The R&D department – that’s me – in the meantime continues work on several new designs, all intended to fill a little niche that I find interesting. Look for some other speedy models soon. Down the road, some sport 1/2A stuff maybe? I have a few ideas.

Q: The website hasn’t changed, when will we see news? What about the inquiry I sent in via the website?

Work on the website begins Wednesday, and I hope to have news items on line in a few days. I acknowledge all inquiries, and these are kept on file to receive updates as they become available. All advance inquiries will receive priority service when product is available.

Q: What about tech support?

A: I’ve worked many years in the hobby industry in both R&D, marketing and tech support – enough to appreciate the value of quick and painless customer support. I don’t know everything there is to, but I intend to find out everything I need to. To those who already have these models, please feel free to send me your thoughts and observations. I have all the material customers have submitted before as well. I enjoy helping people, and I promise to listen to you especially if you’ll do the same for me in return.

Sincerely,

Mike Dennett

Good Luck with your new adventure Mike! I have added your web site to my favorites.

If one of my OS 55AX's is looking for a home I think I will try your Plane.

Cheers

Great - it would be good to get flight reports on some of the popular newer engines. If you want to reserve one, you could do the form thing on the website so I have the data on file. There's no obligation, if you change your mind and buy a Kadet I'll get over it.

Thanks for the words of encouragement folks.

p.s. that avatar is hardly appropriate any more is it..

That's how I look on the sticks of anything that flies faster than about 68 mph.

Good news, at least for a few around here. Since I have not had time to continue production of the Screamin Demon, Our friend here on RCU, Mike Dennett from Canada - AKA "MJD", is taking over distribution of the kit. I am very happy that someone with such experience and dedication to the hobby will continue this neat fast building kit. I have been working with Mike for a smooth transition and will continue to be available to him and others if and when it is needed.

For all you Diamond Dust nuts, (I am one of them) it may be time to try one of these. You can, to save time, build it flat like a Dust and be in the air quick. Not sure if you want regular or clipped wing? This kit is both since you can just make the 2" (4" for both sides) wing tips any length you want. Or you can make that true high speed delta like denny's Q40 powered Demon proves.

I'll bet that cowl would be a popular option. Glad to see kit modeling being kept alive with a simple and fast plane to build and fly.

International orders are a big part of the business.

Yes, and no, in that order. When I can buy bladder tanks cheap I'll think about it though..

US orders will ship from the US. Anything else will ship from Canada.

I was told recently by a local fellow who imports CF heli blades, that he can ship his product to his daughter in Japan and have her ship it to customers in the US cheaper than he can send direct from Canada to the US. Go figure.

Nope, the FAI engine still sits in a scratch built DD type delta, with a big ol' cowl. I've got to re-engineer the pipe coupling, the stock arrangement cooks the seals. The OPS pipe design looks much better with the coupling further aft behind a heat sink on the header. This will be the last delta that this Nelson engine pulls along, the next plane will be one of those high aspect type things. Future delta projects of mine will be with OS .32s, just to have something quick and easy to blow off steam with.

I know a delta that flies great on .32's.. [8D]

Those OS .32's are supposed to really haul for their displacement aren't they?

I can now justify buying a .60LX by pointing smugly to the credit card entry and saying "R&D expense, dear.. company purchase". I'm liking this gig already.

Of course I better make a half-decent payment first, gee look I'm overdue again.. surprise.

This is great news!! I contacted Mike on 11/24/08 about ordering a Screamin Demon and was told, "At this point I am not so sure I will kit the delta again." Now I can get one ordered. Thanks other Mike (MJD) I am going to the web site right now to get one reserved.

I have several deltas and I want to get one ot these. I have a Diamond Dust, C/W Dust, Wild Wiz, Outlaw, Whiplash, and a 1/2a "cheap delta".

Don't you agree that I need a Demon to keep my the others company?

My wholly unbiased opinion is "yes, of course!". Which one gets the gnarliest engine?

I have a FIRE Jett 46 on the Whiplash, a Jett BSE 30 on the Dust all others have 32s. A mix of Webra and OS. I really like this type of plane. It is my belief that these deltas fly much better when they are light. It is very hard to beat a Dust with a 32 for all around flying. They are a bit faster with larger engines but they lose the strong elevator that allows 90 degree turns at full throttle without losing speed. The only time a radar gun was available when I was flying my Webra 32 powered Dust it clocked 139 mph with an APC 8X8 and a Kentucky mousse can.

I am often teased about putting my throttle servo on a switch since the stick is seldom used. There are two positions for my flying, wide open and landing.

Thanks to you and all for the words of encouragement today. I go to pick up some sample sets of wood parts tomorrow, looking forward to seeing those. My websiteguy-buddy just hit the road for home, and it's time for some shut-eye.

Cheers,
