Here is another video which really shows the strength of the airframe and ability to horse it around without any bad habits.
On this one the pipe totally seperated from the motor and the motor got hot, transmitting the heat to the prop which explodes mid field on the last pass. And this was 3 months ago, before I started using the higher temp epoxy ucky pucky

SmokenRV4, thanks for the kind words- she really has more potential perhaps only 85% there just yet.
Almost as fast as your RV4?
CP, It is a lot larger and easier to install the components.
The ME163 at 139 euros is very high performance for the price of admission.
While Miss Ashley is among the least expensive hollow molded Q40's it is still a bit more
I think the Pylon plane can turn tighter and not scrub off as much speed doing it.
I havn't really banged any turns with the Komet for fear of the dreaded Death Spiral, But soon

Hi RocketRob
I'm interested to know more about your setup. What pipe are you using. I ran my OS 91 DF with a prop for the first time this weekend. I only got to 14000 rpm. Still cutting off the manifold. I was using a BVM pipe with a Macs fuse top header and silicone coupling. I have a Macs #1290 pipe I may use instead. Just woundering what your thoughts are?
Thanks

I have a Bolly fibre glass 12.5x10.5 prop cut to 10". I am wondering more about which pipe to use. I saw I_Love_Jets forum about speed planes. It mention the ME 163 Komet with a OS 91 DF engine, 10x10 carbon prop and a Macs 1190 or 1290 pipe. I have the 1290, but was wondering if it would handle the higher rpm of the df engine. Thanks.

Jet Crazy,
The Macs 1290 pipe works very well with the OS .91 DF, I tested it with the 1190 and decided to use the 1290 - and my ears appreciate it!
Prop wise- size and selection greatly depend on the streamlining of the airplane. The Sunshine ME 163 is using a custom 9x10 prop and unloads nicely. You are trying to hit 22k+ in the air. This prop allows just over 20k on the ground.
For your initial experimentation a 11x10 wood zinger cut down and profiled would get you in the ballpark. I would be hesitant to ust a FG Bolly but would use a carbon one.
I have been laying up my own props with continious strand carbon per ILJ instructions but it is very time consuming. I am working with a prop manufacturer to offer these props commercially, but we are a month or so away.

RE: Wie ein Floh..Aber Oho! ME163
Thanks for the information.
Why would a fibre glass prop not work? It is much stronger than an APC prop. I do have a CF prop as well. I was also only going to tune the engine to 18000 rpm until I get to know the engine and airframe. Then I will turn up the rpm. I will be installing this engine on a Direct Connection F-18. Not very good for all out speed, but I have this airframe and engine and though maybeit could work. Let me know when you have these props available for commercial sale. I could use a couple. Thanks again.
