Default Sundowner 50 with a YS110??

Anyone tried this?

I have a spare plane and a spare motor laying around.

I also have a Jett60 that I'd consider selling. (maybe)

If a Dago Red can pull close to 150 with this engine shouldn't a Sundowner go even faster?

Hmmm?

I believe the Sundowner would be faster than the Dago Red but I have yet to see a Dago Red turning 150 with a 1.10, even with 60% nitro.

I have a YS 110 in my sundowner and have had it to 141mph with 3" wheels (long grass at the field) and a 14 x 14 apc prop
I belive I can get 150 with a 12x14 apc prop and 50% nitro,I have alsoported my engine whichgave me quite a few revs,I will post the data this week from my egale tree system
I can say that with this plane and engine you must fiberglass the firewall and the servo tray or it will fail

I haveattached the data on a different post as Mongo2

Prop DIA 12
Prop Pitch 14

Why not sick a nice 90 sized 2C from Jett and let her scream? The YS110 will be pretty heavy and shake the whole plane apart.

I'm very interested in what you did to that 1.10 to get 11,500 with 14x14. I can't get that out of mine on a 13x13N, on 60%. That porting you did must be magical. Did you check that with more than one tach?

Also, like I said above, ,I believe the Sundowner would be faster than the Dago Red. The Dago Red has a thicker wing.

Blessings, Terry

I have not tested this combo yet will next week am out of the country right now.
And it is a 12 x 14 not a 14 x 14
I have just been using other peoples tach readings on 60% and adjusted the prop accordingly

It seems as most pepole get around 3hp on 60%

Default RE: Sundowner 50 with a YS110??

I'm running a YS 110 in my Sundowner 50 and it works well. Added a little tail weight to compensate...still breaking her in tho...I ran 143MPH yesterday GPS on 30% Heli. It flies nice.....no issues. I had a YS 91 in it for awhile but it was tired and needed rebuilding and decided to bite the bullet and get the new 110S engine. I actually had this plane built with electric power first and kept overamping the motors and baking out the magnets trying to go faster and faster ( Never GPS checked the speeds electric tho) ....Easier to dump in the YS91 I decided! My buddy flies his SD 50 with the new OS95 2C and he ran 139MPH!

Jmil,

Did you ever get a chance to do actual testing? All of your charts show 11,500 with each prop and I'll be surprised if you see that RPM with any of the props listed.

Bzyguy,

Thanks for the report. That sounds about right. I have the Kelly and have been toying with the idea of a 1.10 in it.

Blessings, Terry

Well my buddy spanked me with his OS 95...He got 149mph gps now after swapping every prop known to man! LOL...I'm sure there is still a little more for me too! Not sure if I'll find 10 mph to catch him tho?

bzyguy, what prop are you running and what RPM are you turning? That sounds like some pretty good speed.

Thanks, Terry
