YS 60 short stroke
Just bought a YS 60 short stroke with new sleeve, piston and bearings here on RCU for $99.00.
Are these things any good, are they of the same potential as it's 45 sized little brother?

yup they got lotsa torque too, macs' standard 10 cc pipe...we used to clear the field at mather with it, all the pantywaists would head for the pits when we put it down low on the deck at full tilt[8D][8D]

i have a couple of them, never ran them though. being a classic pattern buff i bought them strictly on reputation. they are said to have been the best 60 short stroke ever made.

I got the 61 LS, the prop shaft is a little short. I was told you can get some extension for it. Anyone knows where?

I have two of the YS 60's. Good running engines.

Outstanding engine. Set the pipe around 13.2" and toss an APC or Vess 11x8 on the shaft. Pipe at 13.5 and an 11x9 works well too.
And if you want real old school, 13" with an 11x7 !

Terry ... got what you mean, a pal is working on that solution now. Seems practical. What prop were you running and on what plane? If I may ... what header and muffler?

RE: YS 60 short stroke
One of my YS 60's I bought new in 1987. It has been in a few planes. The first was a Super Hots. Right now I have one in a VQ Macci and one in a VQ FW-190. Both have a Macs header and pipe. I usually run an APC 11-8. If you put it on a slippery airframe a 10x10 wouldn't be a bad choice. Back when I started, the pattern guys ran like a 11x11 or something like that. That's why YS came out with the 61 long stroke. I've tried the 11x9 but I think my pipe is too short. The biggest problem with the YS 60 is that they don't carry parts for them any more unless it is a part that fits the 45 as well. It probably won't be long before they stop carrying parts for the 45 too. I actually have a third YS 60 but I broke the needle socket and can't get a replacement.
