Default ROSSI 45

I got this Rossi 45 today for $50.00

The guy that sold it to me said it would turn a 10X8 apc prop at 19000rpm!

If it's in good shape, you got quite a deal. What do you plan for it?

I'll believe that rpm claim when I see it. I can see a 9-8 at 17 perhaps, or thereabouts.

Hey if it does it, then great, and I'd love to see it! But, it sounds outlandish. That's all.

if you see 19k on a 10X8 then you have the most powerful 45 in the world.be careful not to over exaggerate. there are way too many rpm police on this forumbut if it does tach at 19k I will give you 160 for it[8D]

Don't worry, I think we all caught the difference between "I say" and "the guy said".. if I had a piped .60 that turned a 10-8 at that speed I'd be pretty happy. Let us know what it really does.

You all were right. The Rossi turned 10X8 apc 14000 rpm. Then I tried a 10X7 Master Airscrew "22000 rpm" what the hell is up with that? I double and tripled checked the prop readings...

....the most I ever saw out of my piped .45 was 18,100 on the ground
with an 9 1/2-6 prop (MAS)....

....it does about the same with a 9-7 Zinger.

A West .50 V1 on the pipe will crank a 9-6 APC 20-21.?k for reference. I would believe something like maybe 19k on a 9-6 on the tuned muffler system. But a 10-8 is a big load even for a .61, and takes a gob of hp to spin it 19k. Probably 4hp+. It was a totally unrealistic claim and we were all interested in the reality, as you were.

There is a major problem with that Rossi and some of the others with a similar pipe. Forget the wild RPM claims.

The header is screwed to the case. The header has an "O" ring type seal. The muffler just slips over the "O" ring. There is nothing else to hold the muffler on to the header. I have seen many attempts to fix this, most of them looking like a spiders web of mechanics wire wrapped and wound around the pipe and case. Invariably they all rattle loose. Hardly the type of attachment one would expect on a serious high performance engine.

Sure there are some that could fix that problem, but why bother. There is available a made in the USA engine that will outrun the Rossi any day without the muffler falling off. The Jett Q40 engine is $375.00 as opposed to the Rossi 45 at $195.00. Quality costs money. You get what you pay for.

Dude what planet are you from? Rossi motors are as well built or better than any mass produced motor. Comparing a mass produced motor to a hand built Jett is like comparing a balanced and blueprinted custom motor to an off the shelf crate motor. Oh and the muffler is held on by a spring works great.. 50 bucks was a great deal for the motor. Run the piss out of it and enjoy!
