All rights boys - Here's a little teaser of what I hope to finish in the next couple of weeks. After Reno, consider it an "homage". anyone got any great ideas for attatching 1/64th ply gear doors to the wire legs? something slick and flush (I almost considered 2 drops of Goop...)

....lookin' real sharp, Man. [sm=thumbup.gif] Although I've never tried it,
I think a "hot glue" gun might be the ticket for the doors. It remains just
slightly flexible enough to not vibrate off.

Looking great Chris! I was up there this week and thought about looking you up and trying to talk you out of that thing again. I just ran short of time. It looks like you will actually fly it now. Chris....

go with the Goop. It will remain flexible, and it seems to bond to anything (as long is its clean). The hot glue might work, but only if you select the right type.... regular craft version of it gets brittle. They make a type that sorta stays gummy.

For the gear leg doors I silver soldered metal landing gear straps bent arount the wire as mounting "tabs". Then used 5/16" long sections of streamlined aluminum tube as the stand offs. Filled them with hardwood and screwed them to the tabs, and the gear doors to them. It's very slick, I'll post pictures later. I spent most of the day Sunday fighting with the inner clamshell doors. I can't get them to open and close properly, using a spring hinge and a catch wire.... Any idea's?
Vic-wait until after I fly it. If it'll fit into a shoe box I'll send it (saves on shipping and all).
Bob-I'd be happy to send you photo's when it's all done. I'm waiting for my "sponsorship" letter from Redbull to use the logo's though. When I asked them for permission they told me that I'd have to apply for sponsorship. I was like "are you kidding me? It's a model airplane lady!".

Im sure I can get you a few stickers if you so desire. Im still waiting for a sponor deal of my own

I tell ya what though.... there was at least though given to asking permisison. Impressive. Few people even consider things like that these days.

Anyone remember a bunch of years back when the Shultz/Peanuts comic folks decided it was not a good idea for airshow teams to use snoopy on the top of their flying doghouse models used at airshows ? I guess if you have to protect a copywrite or trademark, its has to be fairly absolute protections.

I've done a few "faux" sponsorship schemes on my models, a couple of "Crayola" Ultimates, a "Marlboro" Ultimate, "Oakland County Sheriff" Cap... and never thought twice about it (I hate straight lines, bars and stars).
Well, with my shiny new Jett motor I needed to find a paint scheme that would complement the BSE .50, there was too much motor hanging out to ignore it, especially with that gigantic red mousse can. While we were making our Reno plans this year I heard about the Red Bull Air Races and was just blown away. I though "I've got to support these guys. They've got to be one of the coolest companies around", and it just so happened that their colors were a bright purple/blue, aluminum with red and yellow logos. Pretty close to the carb and case on my Jett. So it seamed a match made in heaven. Then check out the Red Bull Air Races and think about how we could do this with models (kind of like a fun fly...). I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I got back from Reno.
As not to be egregiously off of topic, I lost the motor mount for my F-20. The one that I had drilled for my firewall, Jett, and tapped for the nose gear mount. Anyone know what mount will fit my Jett and still fit in the nose of my jet?

Chris.......either the Jett aluminum mount or a good ole Dave Brown mount 40 size mount will work.

Was the original mount "round" or square in shape??

hmm..
sounds like a great planes type of mount, or a hayse mount.

anything you can find to fit..... you will be ok with. Most of the mounts out there are fairly stout.

I bought a Tatone mount for the O.S. 50 and it fits like a glove... after a lot of filing to clear the needle assy. It's tapped for the nose gear mounting screws so it'll be a little easier to install than the nylon one. One nice thing about the Tatone mount is that I can polish it on a wheel just like my Jett. I'm reminded of what I tell my fiance all of the time, "there are only three things that can keep this man's attention: curvy, shiny and fast".

It's almost done, a little more painting and some trimming. What a funking tank! 6.8 lbs, 29.24 oz/sq ft wing loading. I hope it goes fast, won't go slow...

I apologize Vic. Dennis sent me an email saying that you were coming up. I even painted my new gear for the Cap so that I could go out th field. As it turned out me and the fiance were busy all weekend with election stuff. I would have been better off spending the time at the field. Next time for sure.
The F-20's almost done; I still need to mount and actuate the inner gear & nose doors, mount the tank, sand & paint the cowl and cut the vinyl for the top of the wing. Someone on here had a slick gear door set-up, care to post pictures and an explanation?

Usually, two servos are used....one for the mains, and one for the nose wheel.
On a taildragger....one is used for the mains on 40, 60, 90 sized planes. On the
big stuff, one servo could be used for each mechanical retract, but keep in mind
with an air system, only on servo is used.
