Is one of the image formats that can post here a better choice, or pdf, or what? I try to stay as ignorant of these things as possible these days.. I quit caring about and trying to be handy with PC's slightly pre-Windows. Anything I know now was gained unwillingly.

Maynard asks why his record goes unchallenged but he forgets to tell you what the entire cost of the whole venture was.
If he could have taken his project a step further it would have been interesting to see what the time could have been if he handed the radio off to a world class pylon racer. Just to see every last bit of speed wrung out of the Tortoise.

Okay, good. It is a pretty clear image, but it comes up grainy on RCU until you expand it.
The equipment to break the record is not a big problem. But the logistics of it are ridiculous considering the layout. Sounds to me like a couple of folks got together and decided to make up an official course and rules to go with it without thinking past the end of their pencil. Or maybe they had never flown RC before.

He points out the real problem for the average or even mildly above average guy to try something like this with the unrealistic timing requirements.
I know there are inacuracies with radar guns, doppler recordings, and even the how fast units but these are the most accurate things the normal guy has access to. I've watched every thread in RCU and RCG where people come up against the same wall of how to get a good reading. Even the F3S event struggles with their system.
"I don't think you'll beat the stolen horse." indeed.

How much does it cost to fly a FAI official out to the flying field, pay him his per diem, gratuities, etc.? Does it require an FAI official at each pylon?
How much does it cost just to file the paper work with the FAI? I'll bet someone has their hands in your pockets the whole way.
The timing device itself could cost .........?
Only a very well off and dedicated speed freak or "Soviet Union type" of sponsored pilot would stand a chance.
