Hi Gad,
There are many great planes that will fly pretty fast with a jett 50.
you need to specify what are you looking for... it is a kit or an ARF? Delta/full tail?
you can spend months here in this forum reading and learning a lot from previous threds, one thing you will surely notice is that the peple here are very helpfull.

Hey Gad,
Although the bobcat will be a fast plane, it will not be as fast as a Patriot40 or a F-20.
again, it depends on what you are looking for, if it is the bobcat that you want - go get it.
if its a faster plane you want - there are other suggestions.

you can try one of the deltas (you can find a lot of info on them here on RCU) that goes around like the screaming deamon and such...

Being 20-30 mph faster than a Hobbico trainer wont seem like very much after the first hour of flying.

Hi combatpigg
what are your recommendations for a fast .40-.50 plane?

If you have to have a model that looks like a real plane, the Patriot with a Rossi, Webra, or Jett 50 will move pretty good.

If you want all out speed for the least money, get a Screamin' Demon delta.

Otherwise, the pylon racers at Matney models are sure bets to get the most speed out of your engine, too.

The Bobcats and the "scale-like" jets aren't very fast, they look funny getting passed by a little .32 powered Top Flite P51 Mustang.......

Matney models is a good suggestion too. However everything we have mentioned are kits. I always love the look of an F-20 personally. I'm working on a Q40 for this year[8D]

Here's an F-20 for a good price. Phoenix models are pretty nice too, no matter which one you get.

Guess you are a lucky fellow then. They were plagued with elevator horn failures.

the newer version of the bobcat 50 is "retract ready" but does not have them in the ARF.

Mosome guys put a Tower or SuperTigre .75 on them.

I had one with Jett .50 and OS .50SX not very fast.

Also pusher props have a limited selection in sizes available.

I had F-20 it was much faster with the Jett 50, both were on fixed gear.

Yea, I'd say "were" is the operative word here. I bought mine last fall and it appears they have resolved that issue and have included HD control horns, but hey, if you're worried about it, what's a pack of control horns cost?

Now as to the Phoenix F20 being a speed plane.... that remains to be seen. Don't get me wrong, it's very stable, smooth, and generally is a great handling plane. I'm running a piped ST .45 turning an APC 10 x 7 in the mid 14s, and the best it's been dopplered is in the 105-110 MPH range (unloading to about 15,500 in the air). It's fun doing easy 100 MPH knife edge passes down the runway, 10' off the deck, but don't expect blistering speed out of it. The fixed gear and huge wing are two fairly significant limiting factors...

The Bobcat, F-20 etc. and many prop jet ARFs - IMHO - all fall under the category of "airplanes that look fast but really are not". There are a bunch of prop jets and pusher jets etc. on the market of which none of them is actually designed well for speed from the aerodynamics standpoint. Sure, they fly "briskly" with enough power and they might look cool, but they are mostly about appeal to the eye.

I'm sure you'll see much better overall performance from models like a Patriot as suggested, a Sig Kobra fitted with a strong .50/.60 and retracts, a Matney Zoomer with tail-dragger retracts adapted to the 12% wing option, that sort of thing.

The choice depends heavily what you want to achieve. 120mph is too fast for some, and too slow for the rest. If you want to fly 110mph with a prop jet, the choices are easy. If you want to fly 140-150 or so then you have to move away from that stuff and look at better suited models.
