If you are blowing plugs, you are either running lean or your head is TOO low.

Definately not lean, lots of smoke, and its a .46 fx I've been using for a couple of yrs, well broken in, never had to touch the head clearance.

Also the rattling or buzzing of a loose crank, worn rod, contribute to early element fratures.
Grab the prop and try to rock it in the crankcase. Rotate it to a different position and check for axial slop or rough feel.
If it's a steel caged bearing, they're garbage and should be replaced with a high speed bearing .

The engine dripped out a bunch of black goo when I removed it from the plane, probably had enough abuse couldn't take it anymore, so I mounted my other very lightly used not broken in yet, .46FX for some abuse. Off I go to the flying field again, for some more fun.

Are you talking about the R5?
That's a cold plug...if you burn up the #8's or they don't work well, then yes, I would try the R5 just for the heck of it, to see if the engine likes it.
You'd probably need to re-adjust both needles...
The Evolution engines seem to like a warmer plug though...so the 8 should be ok.

no sense to spend extra money on anything other than a KB HP, 1L or McCoy #9.
All work perfectly fine and are reliable in the sport racing motors.

K+B's have served me very well since I started using them in both my JETT engines and all my other ones also, and you can't beat the price! OS "F" plugs work good too but are a little steep.
