JoeM;
You said it all!!
The curl of the cable can and are a pain!! All nose gear should have a centering spring to help keep the wheel from flopping around!!

Hello Joe.

there was no centering spring of any description.
Only a small box with the bits just thrown in, though the units were wrapped in paper.
the collets were useless as they had no threads in them, so had to use other ones.
i had to strip the nose unit to get it to work as it was so stiff it would not spring down.
For the money we pay in this hobby we certainly get a sub standard product with most things we buy.

I will look into the centering spring thanks.

Hi Again Darryl,

I took a peek at all of my planes that have nose gear retracts. Although there are various brands I've used, the one thing they all have in common is the use of a centering spring (or springs).

I have contacted Robart numerous times over the years and they have always been very helpful with problems. I'm sure they can straighten you out.

Hello Joe.
Thinking about it, my robarts on my TF Mentor have the centering spring.
I think all the rest are mechanical retracts.
I have contacted robart and see what they come back with.
Will have to remove the gear bay cover to fly untill I get it sorted.

Hello,
I just bought the plane and starting to ready the tread again.
A quick question, did somebody ended using the jett .90 engine.

I'm planning on using that one since is the only one I have available at the moment.
HELP I need an answer, because if that engine doesn't fit I have to order the .56 right away.

Thanks,
Roberto

Rendon,

I originally planned to use the Jett 90 LX because I had on needing a plane, but ultimately, decided to go with the 56LX. The 90 is too heavy, draws too much full for the tank size, and overall wont give you any increase in performance over the 56LX. If you can afford it, go with the 56LX.

Also look at the EVO .60nx engine. Very good engine. I am thinking of buying one more Jackal 50 and droping in a OX .55AX in it!! Have the OS .55AX in my small Revolver and the plane is very happy with it!!

The 55AX is just a great all around engine. You'd be hard pressed to find any plane thats not happy with it (as long as its an equitable airframe). I've seen a Jackal with the EVO 60NX and Blue Jett Muffler and definitely agree that it performs very well.

Here is a video I did of the Jackal for an upcoming RCU review with the 60NX and blue muffler. It performs very well and is not lacking for speed in anyway. In the video, the engine was still slightly rich and in a straight and level pass against the wind, I calculated an approximate speed of 135mph using Doppler analysis. If I lean out the engine, come out of a dive downwind, I bet it can easily push over 150.

But the question is....Will the 55AX run well on a pipe, or does it suffer from the issues on the 1.20AX and have too large of a carb, and have issues, if not using the stock muffler??
I am placing a 1.20AX w/muffled pipe on my GP Cosmic minnow (mild reinforcements to stressed areas of airframe).
It is needing a perry pump....will see though...

SJ .60LX High Performance ABC
18,000
10x6
16.8 oz.
$350.00
Order Here

NEW SJ-60LX - High Performance Power upgrade now available.
Engine timed and tuned for higher rpm - provided with SS muffler.

This is the one you want....

They do not make the 55lx anymore....they have the 60LX now....
I could be wrong though....
The F.I.R.E .40L-.76L are more for turning bigger props and lower rpms.....but I think you can't go wrong with any of them
They are Lighter as well than the cast versions....
They weigh in less than 13oz compared to the LX's which are 17oz

I applaud Horrizon, for marketing J.Dubs pipe the right way....instead of sending it out to China, copying it, and sell there version of it.
Like many companies of today have done....
Very good....

The SJ60LX has now been replaced byt eh 56LX. When you order the former, Dub, will informa and substitute for the 56LX. The Jett website has not yet been updated. The 56LX is a monster of an engine.

I am running the Blue Jett muffler (Evolution) on my O.S. 55AX and it runs great with a 10x7 APC turning 15K+, I bet it will work great in the Jackal.
I have a NovaRossi 57 in my Jackal.

Hello Joe.
Do you have an email address for Robart? as they are not responding to the online contact form I fill in.

Flew the jackal again over the weekend but left the nose gear bay cover off to ensure the retract did not jam.
Gear worked a treat, nose leg is very sloppy sise to side as you taxy out, this is due to the retraction block sloppy in the mounting frame.
One concern of mine was, at the speed this plane flies at, with the big hole underneath in the nose bay area (with or without the cover) will it pressurise the fuselage and blow the canopy off?
Any one opened up the tail pipe on theis plane to relieve the internal pressures?

On the plus side, I had my first flight without the plug blowing on the Jett engine, so wrapping the tank in foam sems to have worked.
A little more running in, then I will change from the 10x6 prop to the 9x8 prop.

Darryl

Hi Guys;
I have a question. On my Jackal 50, I am using the EVO 60NX with the JETT Blue Muffler. I was just in my back yard burning some fuel through the engine. This weekend the weatherman is calling for some good weather, so I am getting the Jackal ready!!!! The low end is sweet and I am happy the way it run, so I push the throttle to high to heat the head and to check the high end. At half throttle, the pipe kick in hard. When I push the throttle all the way up, the engine ran like it was rich. Back to half throttle, the pipe unload again!!! At low throttle, she is sweet again. Fuel: Omega 15% nitro. Prop: APC 11x6. The last 2 time I did fly her, the pipe unload at full throttle!! The low end has not been touch.
Thanks guys!!!

My bad for not having current info on the website.

The SJ-60LX is out of production.
Replaced by the SJ-56LX.
Same (if not better) performance.
Same size, weight, price, etc.

Anyone in the thread here wish to share a few photos of the Jett56 power Jackal? I know several are following along. Post here, or feel free to email. I am looking for a few poster children.

If anyone cares, we just got my electric conversion out today. It was the third flight but the first flight we really opened it up. I have the Eflight electric retracts, robart struts, and a lot of electricity. Prospeed radar gun and we got 178 mph from left (~5 mph tailwind) and then did 170mph from the right. No big dives! Just a normal pattern descent for the passes. Great plane, flies smoothly!

Thanks Sonny.
I'm a busy guy so I had my buddy put it together for me and as usual he went overboard (like I like it) in the quest to reduce drag. The only "issue" the plane has is the gear has trouble coming up with any significant speed due to the gear door aerodynamics. I usually do qm40 type electric conversions but i was surprised at the noise when we went full throttle. I think i'm going to do a static run up and check rpm today.
