Now that she's got some airtime under the belt and the majority of the bugs have been worked out, I'm thinking of a re-paint over the winter months... The profile looks similar to an F-20 (F-5 in Canada ) Any suggestions? I think an aggressor colour scheme would look bad ass

Setscrews check with Fastenal in Winnipeg (www.fastenal.com) . They have a pretty good supply. Phone first. Way less money than RTL. I needed some 4-40 set screws. They just handed them to me. Wasn't worth charging for them.

Thanks for the great idea....will do for sure. Just wondering where you can pick some of those small set screws up?

Black is problematic in the sun for both covering and paint, so just keep that in mind. When they are in the air they all become silouttes so the fact it is black should not affect visibility, but the sun will be a problem. I have wanted to do a black scheme for a while and have not for that reason.\

The black one would be neat, keeping the belly red....But the camo is tempting!!

I agree, you have to pay attention flying anything that dark. I fly an F-117 and you have to really concentrate. The red bottom would help, but I'm thinkin' you're right. The F-117 is a chore to fly with the flat black scheme top and bottom especially at a distance!

Hey Guys;
Tumbler is right about the color black and the sun. Many years ago, I had a all black Top Flite Top Dawg. With a clear blue 22 sky, the plane was easy to see, but, I lost it on landing because of the sun. By the time I saw the plane again, it was just about to hit the ground! Now with the color scheme that is on the Jackal 50, on a clear sky blue day, you can see the plane with no problem, but have a gray sky, you will have problem seeing it untill you roll the wings and see the red bottom. Another color to stay away from is sliver. Very hard to see!!!
Like always, just my 2 cents!!!

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
[:@] Still no first flight. I'm using a new transmitter (Futaba 8 fg) and I can't get the throttle cut working right. The barrel opens when I turn on the throttle-cut. I can't see any way to change this. I'm waiting to get an answer in the manuf support board.
I also tried removing the gap sealing tape on the flaps hoping that this would help. No-good. I either have to fly with a slight camber or re-hinge the flaps. This is very annoying.

I just bought an 8FG....I've been flying for 15 years and was confused as hell when I first tried setting it up...I googled it, watched videos.....I was completely lost.......best option is to look at the manual index and just mess around with it... the manual index is the best way to do it. Now that I know how to do it, it works great.

OK, so I have read lots of guys talk about issues with the Evo 60. Burning plugs not running well and misc other issues. I'm not going to go in for the Jett ( too expensive for this model ) so if I go for the Evo and the Jett pipe what works. What prop and plug / fuel combo works once its broke in ? Is anyone having good luck with this engine pipe combo ? I am going to either find a way to foam the tank up or install a bubbless to get rid of the possibilty of tank foaming during flight. I recognize this from a few of my other hangar 9 arf's. Dont know whay they cant get this part right?

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
I saw that post but was worried that the 65 ax would be to bulky. I have a 55 ax, nice engine, have had good luck with it. Had 2 .46 axs that both peeled liners, my 55 hasnt done that so far. Axs run very well. What was the issue with the 60 Evo? I was going to try one with an isolated tank , 15% heli fuel, an OS 8 plug and a 10x6 apc. Was this close to what you were using? I would break in with an apc 10x5 on my stand. I'm not up for head shims. I remember running Rossis in the late 80s, what a pain in the butt.
Does Jett give a recommendation for the Evo with their pipe? They must have had questions by now.....
Thanks

My advice on the Evo - at LEAST 30 minutes on the test bench before you put it in the plane.
Strongly recommend a bubble jett or tetra bubble fuel tank. You can do without it, but I wouldnt. Dub litterally crammed the 10oz bubble jett in his, and worked just fine.
Adding a head shim takes about 5 minutes. If at all concerned, drop one in. It will cost you nothing in performance, and worth it if you desire the piece of mind.

103..
I have the stock Evo and Jett Pipe, Both have performed perfectly.
I'm running mine with 10% fuel and a 11*6 prop also.
No flame outs, or burnt plugs. I'm not running mine on the edge, either...
Hope that helps
Jack

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
Mumblety, I also have the 8FG, Im using the trainer switch SH for Throttle Cut.
Mine is set this way:
Please go to the Throttle cut menu and set POS 0%
My throttle channel is reversed.
If this does not work, you can always go to System menu "SYS" and select "H/W SET", go to H/W REVERSE" and reverse the SH switch.
Compared to my JR radios, this 8FG is a very powerful and flexible radio.
Let me know if this works for you.
Regards,
Doug.
P.S. just saw you post in the Futaba forum:
Go to the Trottle cut menu, scroll down to SW (your switch selecton) and tap RTN, scroll to ON/OFF tap RTN, change the position of the switch the way you like.

bob27s;
I think the Evo engine are setup to use 4 stroke plugs!! My 2 new Evo .60NX that is in my Cessna 310, came with 4 stroke plugs in them. The one on my Jackal, I have use the OS #3 hot plugs and lots of dead stick landing!! Pull the plug and it is shot. Went with the OS 4 stroke plug and the Evo run like a top. Lots of power with the Jett Pipe. All the Evo engine I have came with a 4 stroke plug install. For me, I always like to put new or rebuild engine in the stand and run 2 tanks through them.

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
Bob,
Thanks, I just got an e-mail from Dub. As I have watched this my feeling has been foaming fuel with the ridgid mounted tanks but without actually being there you just never know. Question is did Dub use a 10oz or a 12oz tank? What if anything did he have to modify ?
As always thanks. I need to order the pipe from you guys. red goes with the jackal better then the Evo blue LOL

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
My opinion is save your money. I wasted mine on the Evo setup and ended up shelving it. I bought an OS .55 AX, the jett muffler fits on it, however I want to get the engine broken in before I put stress on it. With the 55 she is nice and smooth, but speed isn't quite as fast as the EVO. But that could change once I put the Jett muffler on it. I will sacrifice a little speed for a reliable engine.

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
103/17,
I am having good performance with the Evo 60 and Jett pipe. Running an APC 10x8 prop and Han 3011 glow plug and using 15% fuel. Flip starts easily on the first or second flip after priming. Never need to use a starter on it. Flies the Jackal with authority. Vertical performance is awsome. Idle is amazing. I tried an APC 10x7 prop. Got more rpm but actually ran slower and had less vertical performance. Broke-in the engine with an APC 11x6 and stock muffler. When I went to the Jett pipe, the exhaust gasket wouldn't work. Pipe would loosen. I have the Jett pipe mounted with no gasket and blue loctite on the screws. Works great so far. I am using the stock fuel tank that came with the Jackal. Not using any foam under it. Have a piece of foam behind it to keep it from sliding backwards. I have not had any issues with bubbles in the fuel. At least that I am aware of.

Thought I would load these into this thread...
Photos are of the Jackal that Dub built. Shows how he installed the 12oz bubblejett fuel tank and remote needle. Perhaps useful as a reference.

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
Here's my take on the foaming,For the clunk I use a sinterd bronze filter clunk made by dubro this filter clunk will not let the bubbles in it I beleave it breaks them up. I have used them for many years and have no problems.I'm running a Jett 60 one of the first ones made and have never had a glow plug problem. It turns a 9-8 at 18,000.I had this same set up in my Patriot with many flights and all was good.It isin my Jackel now and I have one flight one it so far.First flight was ok never really opened it up yet I was flying at 1/2 to 3/4 and it was pretty quick.
