Love this plane very fast but it lacked a Military look to it. Thought it looked alot a F-5 Agressor so here it is. Plane flys better since the paint job..

What are the prop is everyone running with the Evo .60 nx ? Dont have the Jett pipe just the extended Evo pipe......

Im using a 10x7 composite.  Works great with the jett pipe and the stock evo muffler

This jackal painted looks better than the original , also I like the smaller canopy aspect , very very cool !!!

Saw that price on Thursday and pulled the trigger. I have a cherrished and rebuilt YS45 side exhaust w/hatori pipe that should pull this thing around nicely.

As I am about to start work on a Jackal shortly, I was reading this thread... lots of good info.. curious what the consensus is on the aileron and flap servos... manual recommends the MN48s.. there was some talk early on Page 17-20?? About Hitec 5245MG... but then there was talk of how these (can) fail due to a pin??

Just wondering what everyone is using...

I used DS-821's for all my control surfaces except the flaps. For those I used Futaba S3004's as well as for the throttle.

Watch a Jackel bite the dirt today, it was a 125 mile an hour pancake. Motor went about 75 yards after plane hit the dirt.

Yup...that's what happened to mine. Except the motor ended up 8 inches in to the ground.

Hi peoples, just giving an update..... If you put an O.S.75AX engine in the Jackal the best prop is an 11 x 12. I am getting 9 lbs of thrust so I have a power to weight ratio of 1 to 1. The plane flies FAST and it is very stable. However I am having an issue with those Eflite 60 sized electric retracts, they begin to cycle on there own when I retract them up  and I can't seem to solve the problem. One main gear would start cylcling first, then the other then the nose gear but when I put them down they stop. Does anyone have any suggestion?

Yes Cap'n, your battery is not providing enough voltage during the cycle. Firstly, NEVER use your radio battery for the retracts, ALWAYS use a separate battery. I can show you how to wire this if you need it so the retracts only use the separate battery. Second, you need a battery that can produce about 5 amps and hold at least 5 volts with this current drain. And all this is assuming you don't have a high resistance in the wiring or connectors (especially connectors) that is dropping the voltage. I've measured as much as 1 volt drop across some connectors under load. Not good, especially if you have multiple connectors.

I used the 46 size eflites on my Jackal, with a 6V 1000mah NiMh separate battery. I can cycle the gear about 100 times on one charge and have had no problems. You will likely need a larger battery, say 6V 1400+ mah with something like 8-10C discharge rating (better too much battery than too little).

BTW - can you upload some pictures of you engine installation? I'd love to see how you squeezed the 75 in there.

OK, attached is the wiring diagram to let any system use it's own battery supply, including electric retracts. With this arrangement the receiver supplies the control signal only. The added switch is important, and lets you work with your plane's radio without worry about the gear moving when you don't want it to. I suggest putting this switch right next to your normal radio switch to help remind you to turn it on and off with the radio for flight. I know that for most radios the center wire is the (+) power wire and is usually red. You will need to check to make sure you cut the right wire for your radio. I found a diagram on the internet and included it here for reference. Note that some Airtronics radios now have connectors that match other brands - so make sure you know which wire is (+). And, when you cut the wire, be careful you don't cut the others.

Seven more flights on the Jackal this past Sunday. Perfect conditions. Fixed my problem with the front nosegear not coming down by putting Tygon tubing over the control wires. They were flexing so much inside the plane when the the gear was retracted that they would get hung-up on themselves or other edges. The plane is flying and landing better than ever. Show center verticals until the plane became a dot in the sky. Great fun.

Hi Guys.

Just finished my replacement Jackel build.

Forgot how fiddly it was to build for an ARF.

Fitted the Jett 56 from the previous Jackel, now long gone.

Carried out a test flight last friday but plauged with lots of engine problems, which I traced first to a loose gland nut on the needle valve assy, causing air leaks, and then to the carb assy coming loose sucking in air. Both problems causing the plugs to burn out in minutes.
Once those were fixed engine was tuned and ready for flight , when after refuelling the fuel valve stuck open, so all further flights were abandoned.
The one short flight was hair raising, as I forgot to put rates on the ailerons, luckily the engine ran so rough it only reached half speed so was eventually manageable.

All problems fixed so will try another flight this coming weekend.

Anybody tried putting some wheels with brakes on the plane yet? I was considering it as I fly off a paved runway. Roll out after landing is pretty long- over 75 ft before it slows enough to turn around. If it's a fast lasting, the roll out can be longer and put me in the grass. Then I risk a prop strike. Just curious if anyone has tried brakes and what brand was used.

Hi guys,

I've got one of these birds almost ready to go but I'm wondering about the CG. If I add enough weight to balance per the manual it barely keeps the nose gear on the ground. As it is, it takes very little effort to lift the front wheel... I'm using the 60nx with the blue pipe and eflight 46 retracts, I've also got a 2100mAh LiFe stuffed as far back in the tail as it will go. Are all you guys flying this at the middle of the recommended CG? Thoughts on throws would be great as well.

Mine is also very light on the front wheel. If you lift the nose to the point the tail rest against the ground and let go, the nose will go back to the ground- just not real fast. The aircraft flies very well this way and if anything feels just a little nose heavy in flight. I was considering putting a 5 cell battery in the plane to replace the 4 cell to move the balance point back a little bit. One thing I have notice about the light nosewheel is that taxiing at slow speed is not the best.

My Jackal 50 is a tad nose heavy, but I like it that way and it fly just great!! I was always told to start at the CG that come in the manual and then find the one that work for you and the way you fly.
As far as the control throws, I found out on the maiden flight, that they was way to much and I have 35% expo mix in!! You don't need much to fly this bird. After the first flight I cut the throws in half of what the manual call for and then adjust to my liking. I have the same engine that you have in your Jackal 50. The last time I flew my Jackal 50 I fill the tank with 30% heli-mix fuel and was happy I did!!! The engine just love it!!!
