H9 Sundowner 36

Looks like a sweet little plane for a Dub Jett engine. Due out in Feb. I think.
I like this size.:D

It suggests up to a 40NT, that engine is actually a tad heavier than the new 60 NX. Could be interesting if the plane could hold together with the bigger engine:D tho the fights would be short with a small tank.

Oh Pooo:

Well, got to admit this is the first twinge of regret I have had after selling off my glow stuff and going all electric. Oh, wait a minute, whats that sparkle and noise in the back of the engine cabinet. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Among the electdrics, there sits my long loved old Jett 35 I just did not have the hart to sell at any price. Still turns smoothly in the original bearings and lots of pinch on top. I honestly don't recall how old she is, and now think this honey will outlive me. Dummy, look on the trophy wall. Club open pylon class (anything goes) within reason? 1st, 2004, 2003, 2002 and one undated. Sound about right, 8 or more years. Took um a long time to find a sport motor 40-50 cc that would catch up. he he he he. Once caught, could have and should have just improved the airframe, but just so tired of all the sniveling. Looks like this is a must have bird. Maby we could get our pylon racing back on track with a spec glow or electric motor. Maby some of the younger shoes can knock those old tigers off the hill, huh? ENJOY

I think rogers Jett .35 suggestion would be perfect. Oh wait, I have one of those hiding somewhere also... Fantastic motor.

While the "click" on accessories does lead you to the 40NX, I believe the suggested engine is the [link]http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EVOE0360[/link]36NT. That motor specs in at or about 12.5ozs. Bit lighter then say the 60NX even with a light weight muffler.

The little Sundowner has made me feel like a @#$% for building a Pogo <that flys more like a dodo>

The real suggested engine for this is the EVO 40NX built around the same sized case as the 36. We'll have these available about the same time the airplane is available.

The YS engines, though great engines, are heavy, and on a plane thats designed for a Electric 36 sized Eflite motor, the airframe would probably get destroyed in a short amount of time with a YS 45 in it, they are built very lightweight, not to mention the 3LBs of lead you would probably have to put in the tail. I think a webra 36 or even a Jett 35 would be the best bet if you were going glow on it, then you might get 120-130MPH out of it, and you probably still would have to beef it up a little around the firewall. Just my .02 worth.;)
Awesome looking plane though, isn't it.[8D]

airraptor 01-21-2011 11:16 AM

RE: H9 Sundowner 36

you will also have to beef up the tail feathers.

if plan to go to a standard 45 size engine then the only choice is a 56LX. you will need to make sure the rest of the plane can handle turns while going that fast.

the plane stock will not handle a a standard 45-60 size engine in a 45-55 size engine case.

Nice, good looking plane for sure.. I could take that to work with me and stop at the field on the way home, good size and I like the plug in wings...

Have to check the motor cabinet tonight and see what we have....</p>

RE: H9 Sundowner 36

I been thinking of getting one of these and putting a Webra 36 on it. I think the Webra would be the better route to go for this type of plane rather than the Jett 35. For one it's cheaper but you will still get plenty of power and should definitely get this plane well over 100mph. Don't get me wrong, Jett engines are nice but just a bit pricy. And for the price I would go with a Rossi engine when it gets to that class. But I have a Webra 36 on my Extreme Flight Outlaw and it smokes. It's funny because my Outlaw is faster than a lot of the electric guys EDF jets at the field lol. They despise glow/gas powered planes so I used that combo to show them glow power can be just as fast :p xD.

The webra 36 would be a great combo for it, thats a nice engine too.

How about a old OS 32 SX with a Jett Pipe on it? ;)

airraptor 01-24-2011 10:30 AM

RE: H9 Sundowner 36

yes the old 32 with jett pipe will do well with a 8x7 or 8x8 prop. the 35 AX will do very well with a 8x8 prop also

The West 36V1 is claimed to do 23k on an APC 8 x 6 (Weston's claims not mine) so that would be the easy option for us lot this side of the pond.

Good to know. I picked up a TT36Pro last fall to go in my GP Spitfire, but except for 2 tanks of break-in fuel on the bench, it has not gone anywhere yet, as my Spitfire still has the original OS25 in it. This is a nice-lookin' plane; might make a good home for my TT36

I am interested in this plane but would like to do an electric install. Looking for a motor that would put the performance in the 125mph + range. Considering the Hyperion 3026 (1900 kv) on a 5s 3300 mah 40c pack. Any suggestions?
