I got into the warbird racing series that we have here in Northern California and realized that the techniques I have been using to build my models have some crossover here in this forum. The specs are:

62" relitivly high aspect ratio wing using my own airfoils @ 10% equipped with mechanical retracts

Rossi .61 5 port FIRE with Rossi header and Macs 1160 pipe

All wood, foam and glass construction. The tail section is 5/32 Nomex honeycomb with 3/32 balsa skins. the fuse is light ply with glass canopy and pipe housing, the radio compartment is sheilded from the pipe with a 3mm sheet of Roacell. RTF weight is 6.6 lbs

Just got back from the field. Flew her 3 times with the new engine running an APC 8.75 X 8.75 pylon prop. I wanted to break it in with light load and high RPM at a rich setting. Flew best at 3/4 throttle as I think with any carb opening above that the engine was unloading against the pipe and falling off the backside of the power curve. Next time out I will put on more prop. With that being said it was running very competitive with our gold class speeds. I have been told that is 150-160 range. One of the other guys had a PM Stega with a modified wing on it running an OS .46 and Nelson muffler. We were pretty well matched when I pulled back to 1/3 power LOL

OK just went out to clean her off and oil up the engine. The prop used today was a 9.5X8 pylon APC. Any Ideas what to try next? Remember I still have to go easy on it as it only has 4 runs. I was thinking a 10X9 APC is the next step
