what kind of covering works best over obeche wood?

Hello all . What kind of covering works best over the obeche wood skins?? was just trying to remove some bubbles and made it worse . finally got one side of wing to settle down but peeled the covering off of the top of the wing so now it needs to be replaced. I tried some monocote but was struggeling with it . I was going tomorrow to buy some ultracots.. any suggestions??

It is common practice when using plastic covering over wood skins to use a "woodpecker" to pierce holes in the wood skins to allow air to escape to prevent bubbles. Any plastic covering you use will have the same problems as far as air bubbles over wood skins.

Please - not all of us use the dreaded woodpecker and can cover a fully sheeted wing with monokote or ultracoat just fine without it. PLEASE PUT DOWN THE WOODPECKER!!!!

If your having issues with bubbles, you are using too much heat.

Silkspan and dope won't bubble or wrinkle.

But is it really worth the effort? Most of us gave up silk and dope in the 1970s and never looked back.

Can one have "withdrawal symptoms" from the lack of fumes when they stop using dope covering?:D

I leave a can open in my shop when I'm "ironing."

Well it looks like heat was the issue thanks for the replies. I ended up using oracover parklight covering. Worked well. A little transparent but nice. This is for the Hobby Lobby Dago Red "pylon" racer. Anyone flying this low dollar speed freak?

The Oracovre/ Ultra-coat is good stuff. The parklight stuff is OK on a speed plane as long as it doesn't have to span an open bay or frame work. If you try that, you could have a disaster in the sky.
