Very nice.!
Keep us posted on how fast she goes.
How do you plan to equip it..?

Rudeboy 11-07-2014 11:09 AM

Nelson Q40LS engine
Tettra 110cc bladder tank
JR DS 3421HV servos
FrSky Taranis radio

How fast? How fast do Q40 planes go these days? I have no idea. Should be good for 185-190 I guess.

combatpigg 11-07-2014 12:06 PM

At Vic's Speed Ralley a Q40 LS broke 200 by a good margin on a similar plane to your's. I think it was a Miss Ashley design pylon racer.
Are you going to use landing gear...?

Rudeboy 11-07-2014 12:17 PM

Yes wing mounted alu landing gear and slim racing wheels.

It is going around the pylons, so landing gear is mandatory. I wouldn't want to hand launch a Q40 anyway... ;)

You will be a fast man for sure! Nice score!

these do ten laps in around 1 minute. thats 2.5 miles or so around the pylons. 185-190 is a good range of speed for these. with the right prop I think well over 200 would be very easy to do. The FAI F-3D planes are around 230 MPH.

My flying buddy has a "stalker pro" radar gun...I'll have to convince him to stand on the runway: him aiming at my plane with the gun, and me aiming at him with the plane... :p

vicman 11-24-2014 08:17 AM

That's a good gun. We use one for the speed rally.
The guy who works the gun at the rally usually stands behind the pilot. His logic is "pilots are not inclined to hit themselves.":p

If his is like the one we use, you can also mount it on a camera tripod, just in case you are inclined to hit yourself.
